In decorating a bath in Chinoiserie style, Gracie and de Gournay hand painted wallpapers of course leap to mind. They are always a perfect choice. But I was eager to find alternatives that you might not have thought of. The stunning hot pink bathroom above is by hot interior designer Windsor Smith. I love the Scalamandre pink velvet on the chairs, the pale green garden stool, and the matador costume. The bathroom below is by uber talented Amanda Nisbet and is wallpapered in a gorgeous paper by Manuel Canovas for Cowtan & Tout. My dream bath for myself.
I love the use of blue and white porcelain in this otherwise neutral bathroom. Note too the "chopstick" or "chinois" style monogram on the towels.
This first wallpaper by Clarence House is called Flowering Quince. It is based on an antique kimono, but done in a freehand modern version to give it a funky fifties feel.
I love this paper by Osborne & Little named Summer Palace, with its blue, white, and silver palette and its fanciful pavilions, bridges, and fishing boats. This definitely has an art deco vibe.
I think all three wallpapers I have shown are fabulous and and all have a modern Chinoiserie aesthetic. The other two bathrooms are great examples of how you can take neutral or even all white bathrooms and give them a Chinoiserie flair with some well chosen accessories.
