Chinoiserie Entertaining on the Fourth of July

Are you entertaining on the Fourth of July? Few of us likely have a red, white, and blue Chinoiserie dining room, but don't let that stop you from setting your Fourth of July table in red, white, and blue Chinoiserie Chic style. Check your house for things you already have-blanc de Chine, blue and white Chinese porcelain gingers jars, vases, or candlesticks, or blue and white china. Add blue hydrangeas or red carnations, roses, or poppies. Voila!

The Tulipiere
The tulipiere or tulip holder is constructed to hold one flower stem per spout. Popular in the 17th century to display tulips, crocuses, and hyacinths, they are a rarity today, but a favorite of mine. A pair makes a wonderful display on a sideboard, mantel, entry table, or as a centerpiece on the dining table. I love using white or red tulips in my tulipieres at Christmas, but many other cut flowers will work as well. Check out the lovely Windsor Smith example below.
