Chinoiserie Gifts and a Find

Amanda Lindroth

One of my favorite vignettes in one of my favorite interior design books is this vignette from Amanda Lindroth's wonderful book Island Hopping.

This book should be in your library and would make a lovely Christmas gift. I have also found the pineapple! I am thrilled. It is in fact a vase by Two's Company and Amanda added the white faux palm fronds.

The price on this piece at Macy's is fantastic. I have also found more great gifts for the chinoiserie lover. I am ordering the pineapple and some Frango Mint Chocolates that Macy's now owns after purchasing Marshall Field's. Growing up in Lake Forest, Illinois, my family would always go downtown at Christmastime and have lunch at Marshall Field's in the Walnut Room next to the Christmas tree. For over 5 decades, it was a real 45 foot tree decorated by Marshall Field's staff.

After lunch we would buy a large box of Frango Mint Chocolates - they date back to 1918. They are still my favorite candy and every year I treat myself to a box and every piece brings back memories of my childhood and my family and Christmas.

Treat yourself to a box and send them as gifts. These are iconic for a reason. And this is a fantastic price.

Here are some other great gifts for the chinoiserie lover on your list on a great one day sale.

  1. I grew up in northern Indiana but my grandparents lived in Chicago. A huge treat each year was to go downtown and see the holiday displays at Marshall Fields and Carson Pirie Scott. Then we would have lunch in the Walnut Room at Marshall Fields. Those are treasured childhood memories. Thank you for this post!
