The Blue and White Dining Room

Kaitlin Smith Interiors

A classic chinoiserie dining room. The fabric is Quadrille's China Seas Seya, a tropical design often used in beach houses. Chinoiserie elements include the navy blue Chinese Chippendale chairs, the navy blue faux bamboo sideboard, the gold faux bamboo frame on the coral art, and the foo dog lamp. I have the same seashell encased hurricanes I got from HomeGoods.

I love the window seat and the bare wood floors. I have a rug stalker who comments every time I post a room without a rug about the need for a rug. I hope the explanation is that the person works for Rugs USA. The turquoise beaded chandelier is fun. What is the story with the finish on the dining table? If it's a weathered finish, I don't think it works with this more formal style table. It looks like it was stored in a damp garage to me. A weathered finish needs to look intentional.

Here is this style table in a very similar room by Katie Rosenfeld. The table below is the Choate by Hickory that is such a favorite of mine and available in many finishes.

This blue and white dining room is preppy and nautical, very Nantucket, and perfect for any beach house. My daughter will like this as inspiration for their new Annapolis home.

  2. Beautiful pillow fabric on the window seat, and I too don't understand the finish, or lack of, on the dining room table. It makes no sense to me. The blue and white dining room with the Foo Dog lamps is lovely. I especially like the blue sideboard.

  3. Personally, it looks like the veneer is cracked on the table, but I suspect it has been slightly 'pickled' to blend in better with the blue and white scheme. I think the decorator was afraid the finished look of the DR table would be too 'heavy'.
