Orange and Blue Chinoiserie

The Question of Ruffles

What do we think about Miles Redd's fascination with ruffled curtains? Do we really love the look or do we love it because Miles is doing it? I have been pondering this question because I have been working on an upcoming series on whether certain things just seem dated period - ruffled curtains, needlepoint, brass beds, and botanicals, for example, or does it depend entirely on the piece and how it is being used? Thoughts? (All ruffled rooms below are by Miles Redd).

My Favorite Chinoiserie Bedroom

As part of this week's celebration of CC's three year blog anniversary, we will be taking a look at my Chinoiserie favorites. My favorite Chinoiserie bedroom of all time is Miles Redd's iconic birdcage bedroom. Where do I start? It was featured in my favorite magazine Domino, but then the campaign canopy bed, the de Gournay wallpaper, the ruffled curtains (who but Miles can do ruffled curtains and make them chic?), the Madeline Weinrib zig zag rug, the pair of Christopher Spitzmiller lamps, the white linens, the pair of blue stools nonchalantly piled with a handbag, magazines, and that crazy little bird decoy - this Chinoiserie bedroom is classic and sophisticated, yet modern and fun. It is the essence of the modern approach to Chinoiserie that I strive to bring you each day with Chinoiserie Chic.

Pagoda Headboard at a Great Price

This pagoda shaped headboard is on sale at PBteen for $249.99 for full size and $299.99 for queen. Through today, get an additional 15% off with code EXTRA15. This is a great deal. Leave it as is or reupholster or slipcover it in a Chinoiserie fabric of your choice.

Zig Zag

The zig zag or chevron design has become such a classic. It melds beautifully with Chinoiserie because its bold and geometric quality is a great contrast to the prettiness of Chinoiserie. This fabulous bed above is from Crate and Barrel's The Land of Nod. It comes in other color choices as well like black and white, gray and white, yellow and gray, and red and navy. Don't think this will only work in a child's bedroom - it is a great choice for any bedroom.

Year of the Dragon - Herend & The Pink Pagoda

Chinese Year of the Dragon by Herend and by The Pink Pagoda.

The Pink Pagoda in Situ

The Pink Pagoda's ginger jar giclees are popping up in the chicest of homes. These photos were sent from one of her customers. Not only are her prints gorgeous and very well priced, she makes them in standard sizes, making custom frames completely unnecessary unless you so choose. I saw metal frames like these at Michaels the other day in pink, green, blue, and purple. Some colors were even half price. Check out her fabulous Etsy store here.
