The Chinoiserie Living Room

Ruthie Sommers

A very pretty and dramatic living room by Ruthie Sommers with Gracie chinoiserie wallpaper in "Antique Peony," a curved pink velvet sofa, ruffle trimmed curtains (very Miles Redd), striped slipper chairs, and a real statement rug. Not sure about the "coffee table" choice here, but I like the bold mixing of patterns - go bold or go home.

The Question of Ruffles Revisited

In April we looked at Miles Redd's love of ruffled curtains. Please revisit that post here. There was quite a range of opinions with some loving them and others detesting them. Here is Miles' latest from the July issue of Architectural Digest. Care to weigh in?

The Question of Ruffles

What do we think about Miles Redd's fascination with ruffled curtains? Do we really love the look or do we love it because Miles is doing it? I have been pondering this question because I have been working on an upcoming series on whether certain things just seem dated period - ruffled curtains, needlepoint, brass beds, and botanicals, for example, or does it depend entirely on the piece and how it is being used? Thoughts? (All ruffled rooms below are by Miles Redd).
