My Picks for a Chinoiserie Dining Room Makeover

A follower asked yesterday for some quick ideas on creating a Chinoiserie dining room using a blue Chinoiserie fabric for the chairs, a faux bamboo chandelier, a pagoda mirror, and a few accessories. They already have furniture.

The chairs will be upholstered or slipcovered in Schumacher Nanjing in Porcelain above. This wonderful red pagoda mirror is from Horchow. (Tip-Horchow is constantly running one day sales with 20-30% off everything-sign up for their emails.)

This faux bamboo chandelier is available in six colors from Shades of Light.

A pair of these Chinese pagodas would be great on the sideboard at $16.95 each from Z Gallerie.

These ideas are classics and are quite budget friendly as well. Send me a picture when you finish!

Harrison Howard's Chinoiseries

My absolutely favorite artist for Chinoiserie art for the home is Harrison Howard. He has very recently added some new works to his Chinoiseries collection. These are some of my favorites ever. Available in the original watercolor and in limited edition giclee prints that are extraordinarily beautiful, one or a pair of these would be an incredible focal point for an entryway, dining room, living room, or bedroom. His work is a favorite of top interior designers. Click here to see his entire portfolio and be sure not to miss his new pieces under Gardens and For Children as well. Mr. Howard's art is the epitome of Chinoiserie-whimsical, elegant, sophisticated, and joyful.

Saturday Inspiration

The kitchen is a wonderful place for a beautiful lamp, your silver collection, and even Chinoiserie. Look how these blue and white Chinese jars pop in this white kitchen. Don't forget that Home, James! is on One Kings Lane today at 11 AM Eastern time. I can't wait!

More Home, James! Chinoiserie

I am in love with this gorgeous paper mache over tin tray by Home, James! I've decided to order one and put it on a faux bamboo black and gold stand and turn it into a side table. This piece was featured in Elle Decor. It is hand painted in Thailand and signed by the artist. It is a lovely piece for serving or display as well. The tray measures 20 inches in diameter. P.S. Home, James! is on One Kings Lane tomorrow starting at 11 AM Eastern time.

Scalamandre China Rose

One of my absolutely favorite Chinoiserie fabrics is Scalamandre China Rose-a classic. A seller on eBay has 5.5 yards of it for $179.90-a steal on this very high end fabric. Click here. It is Buy It Now, not an auction.

The Chinoiserie Bed

A follower of Chinoiserie Chic emailed me about this wonderful Emperor's Dream Bedding from Garnet Hill. These sheets, shams, and duvet cover would literally transform a neutral bedroom into a Chinoiserie paradise. It is very well priced as well.

My Chinoiserie Luncheon

I will be hosting a little luncheon this week and did a test run of my table setting with my Home, James! chargers, Horchow bamboo flatware, Lunt New York Botanical Garden glasses, Horchow foo dog salt and pepper, and $2 each Wedgwood "Eastern Flowers" salad plates from my favorite thrift store. Two New Thrift Store Finds

Two great new pieces for my blue and white collection I found at my favorite thrift store. Front left is a Mottahedeh Delft bulb pot for $5 and front center is a Tiffany & Co. "Tiffany Delft" cachepot dated 1996 for $12. Oh the joys of August in DC when everyone is away on vacation and I snag all the goodies!

Chinoiserie Wallpaper for My Dining Room

A follower of Chinoiserie Chic left a comment last week that I should rush over to Etsy and type in Clarence House. I did immediately and discovered that a seller had 15 rolls of this incredible Clarence House Chinoiserie Baroque wallpaper that she was selling for $150. This very high-end paper has been a longtime favorite of mine. I then realized that the seller is a favorite of mine and a follower of Chinoiserie Chic. What a small world. I purchased the wallpaper and it arrived yesterday. It is so gorgeous! I have always wanted my dining room papered in a Chinoiserie wallpaper and I am about to have it. The next order of business is finding a really expert paperhanger as the wallpaper is untrimmed, unpasted, and very heavy. Visit Mary Kaiser's Etsy store and online store for some truly beautiful things. Thank you so much to Jan for the head's up-I owe you! This may well be my best Chinoiserie find ever thanks to a follower of my blog-just one of the many unexpected joys of blogging!

Here is the paper in a blue colorway.

Latest Chinoiserie Finds

Here are three of my latest Chinoiserie finds. Above, a beautiful and huge antique blue and white ginger jar on eBay for $50. Just below, three reverse glass Chinoiserie paintings framed in gold bamboo for $56 on eBay. Bottom, a lovely vintage silk kimono with obi sash at a local thrift store for $60. Perhaps my best find ever is en route to me right now. I can't wait to share it with you!
