Holiday DIY

Lantern Vignette

Temperatures dipped into the fifties overnight and summer is finally over here - hallelujah! Cooler days ahead. It has me thinking of Christmas decorating.

Are you looking forward to decorating for the holidays? I certainly am. I bet most of us have metal lanterns - I have quite a few at CCC. This is so darling - create a little holiday vignette. Miniature trees like these can be found at places like Target, HomeGoods, and below.

The Front Entrance

Pottery Barn Bolton Lantern

The Pottery Barn Bolton Lantern is something I have wanted to use for quite a while. Well, I decided it would be perfect for the outside front entrance of the new house. It is quite large and dramatic with a hint of a Chinoiserie pagoda style, but very subtle. Today my painters will be over to do a few things, including painting the double front French doors in high gloss black. I will post photos when completed.

Chinoiserie Chic Find

Pagoda Pendant

Have you ever noticed that Pottery Barn's merchandise tends to be dull and mundane and the good stuff is at Pottery Barn Kids and Teen? Case in point - this marvelous faux bamboo Chinese pagoda lantern at Pottery Barn Kids.

Chinoiserie Kitchen DIY

This kitchen by Michelle Allman is one of my favorites with its red and white Chinoiserie toile curtains and tole lantern. Here are two ideas for getting this very high end look. Crystal Lake Lacquer is a beautiful red and white Chinoiserie toile available at CurtainsMade4U. In three easy steps, you can design your curtains online and have them delivered to your door in 3 - 4 weeks with unbeatable quality, prices, and customer service, not to mention free shipping, free swatches, and the wonderful reputation of Calico Corners. Finding a well priced pagoda lantern is nearly impossible. I really like the Bolton Lantern from Pottery Barn - a great look at a great price.

A Chinoiserie Kitchen

Many of us have posted the photo above of this wonderful French influenced kitchen from House Beautiful with its Chinoiserie touches. I thought it would be fun to look at it in greater detail. Note the red tole pagoda lantern by Vaughan. The curtains are Bailey & Griffin's Canton Toile in Cherry Vanilla backed in Brunschwig & Fils Paola taffeta in Pepper Red. The stools are in Brunschwig & Fils La Mer in Pompeain Red.

The hand painted tile mural is from the Chinoiserie series by Tempest. Note the red knobs on the Wolf range.

The Top Ten Chinoiserie Pieces #9

We are up to #9 on Elle Decor's Top Ten Chinoiserie Pieces with one more left. I hope you have been enjoying this series. The Pagoda Lantern by Charles Edwards shown above is $7,400. My pick is this pagoda lantern below at $265. Now that's quite a difference! It is also available in red -  a very popular look.

Pagoda Hanging Lantern High/Low

Brunelli Designs
Recall my post yesterday with the vintage pagoda hanging lantern from Circa Who for $400? Perhaps you would prefer to buy it at Brunelli Designs for $1750?

I can't get enough of the great pop of color and style that a red pagoda lantern adds to a space.
