Blue and White

Kim Seybert

My Publix almost always has gorgeous hydrangeas in blue, white, green, and pink. But I have a sweet spot for the blue. And nothing is prettier than blue hydrangeas in blue vases. I most often use blue and white ginger jars and vases, but I love the blue glass vases and candlesticks above. Use white candles for a blue and white moment.

To make your hydrangeas last - cut the hydrangea stems at an angle under running water and immediately place in your vase filled with cold water. Hydrangeas like cold water - add a few ice cubes to the water when you think of it. Hydrangeas form sap at the stem end very quickly preventing it from taking up water. If your hydrangea stem wilts, recut the stem end and immediately plunge into water.

  1. So happy I've found your site again. For some reason I quit getting it and thought you had given it up. Today I decided to Google your site and I'm so happy I found that you are still posting. I look forward to it every day and have ordered so many items you have recommended. You are like my online friend & I love hearing about your life.

  2. Alum is great for hydrangeas...By dipping the bottom half-inch of the cut stems' ends into the fine white powder before placing it into a water-filled vase. As a result, the hydrangeas will draw more water from the vase, and you're left with happy blooms for days.

  3. Beautiful. I love that shade of blue in the first picture. (Not sure what it's called.)

  4. One should learn something new every day as per Martha Stewart. I learned about how to keep cut Hydrangeas from wilting in 20 seconds which is what happens to me.
Wonderful news. In my garden I have several varieties and each time I bring them indoors I'm disappointed. Next trip to Publix I'll buy a few and follow your instructions. Also the alum trick from your other follower.
The dark blue Chinoise vase with the deep purple is over the top fabulous.
    As always, Thank You Beth.
