Flower Arranging - Sunflowers & Chinoiserie

Charlotte Moss

I must say that it never ever occurred to me to combine sunflowers and chinoiserie, but leave it to Charlotte Moss to make it work. I checked, and in over 5,000 posts, I have never once posted on sunflowers - LOL. They always seemed a bit too country for my taste. I do love the orangey yellow with dark centers with the blue and white. Sunflowers now come in lots of colors (like orange, yellow of course, white, pink, chocolate brown, red) and sizes (dwarf to enormous).

The container is Delft with chinoiserie vignettes. The rope twist handle is gorgeous. Here is another beautiful example of sunflowers with blue and white.

And although I am generally not a big fan of mixing flowers, the hydrangeas and sunflowers are very pretty together.

Trader Joe's is a good source for the smaller sunflowers in different colors. Cut sunflowers are fragrance free which is a plus for some people, and they last 6 to 12 days. Make a fresh cut in the stem bottom and use floral preservative to extend their life.

  1. I, too, am not a Fan of sunflowers, BUT - your teaching moment of saying they're fragrance free has me intrigued ;) I so appreciate you teaching me something via your posts - but, alas, think I'll pass on the sunflowers - LOL

  2. To me sunflowers are a “happy face” every time you see them in an arrangement. They last quite a while & remind me of the Sun….bright & cheery. I live in the South and nothing compares to a field of glorious sunflowers, picture a field in France of lavender but of yellow. I think blue and yellow are great complimentary colors. Have a great week!

    Beth, l love your posts.

  4. Beautiful. I agree with Sallycat - there are few things as beautiful as a field of sunflowers. I once planted a bed of sunflowers along with light blue climbing morning glories. As the sunflowers grew, the morning glories climbed up their stems. It was lovely.

  7. I always buy them for my son's birthday ( in June). They're very masculine to me.
