Another look at the kitchen from yesterday's post, I wanted to point out the chinoiserie wallpaper flanking the range. I also LOVE the Frances Elkins style loop counter stools at the island. The palette here is exactly that of mine in my home - soft gray, white, pink, green, and blue and white.
And greetings from Champa Bay!
The larger view is even better. I would love a kitchen like this, so cheerful.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous. Lots of great ideas here.
DeleteMy favorite part of this kitchen is the interior architecture of it. Lots of windows, no top kitchen cabinets, tall beamed ceilings. A substantial center island, white marble counters everywhere, white (cream?) cabinetry.
ReplyDeleteWith that kind of a marvelous start everything else is cherry on the cake. The only thing I would change (highly subjective, of course) is a different color combination of the blue and white tile above the range. Maybe something with more white in it, something that's a bit more in sync with the wallpaper, the subtlety of which I love here. Or something with a bit of green to tie in with the plates and seat cushions.
Bottom line: the room is amazing, no question about it. My little tweaks do not take away how much I love it.
I think the cabinets are soft gray like the trim.
DeleteForgot to mention: The decorative brass shelving is truly beautiful and an inspired touch. And it ties in so well with the one at the bar area. It is definitely not "the open shelving" that's all the rage now but it adds another layer of sophistication and utility.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely - I would do brass and glass like these for sure.
DeleteThis kitchen is also a lesson in the importance of countertop thickness.
ReplyDeleteA straight edge like these always makes a counter look thicker.
DeleteIt's so bright and pretty! I love the brass and glass shelving with all of your lovely china pieces, and the scalloped range hood. It's a beautiful look with all the windows and natural light, but do you miss not having additional storage that upper cabinets provide? I'm not too crazy about the open shelving trend that's happening now. I can only think of all the dust and cooking grease that would settle there, and I don't especially like to look at clutter. It's just beautiful Beth!
ReplyDeleteWith my open kitchen, I do not have as many upper cabinets as I am used to, but I have two pantries which I prefer. I would definitely do shelves like these, although I am not a fan of open shelving in general.
DeleteI forgot to ask: Is the kitchen floor real wood, or an engineered type of wood? I'd love to have a wood floor in my kitchen, but shudder to think of the possibility that it would be ravaged.
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa, I had hardwood in my kitchen for about 6 years with no issues- family of 4 + a medium sized dog - in NC. Sold the home and moved out of state but the floors held up well- they were hickory, so very hard!
DeleteThank you, Panama Girl! I've never seriously considered them, because I didn't want my heart to be broken if they were destroyed, but now I know.
DeleteReal wood is great in a kitchen, I agree.
DeleteI love the range hood, the scallop detail is very pretty. Not a fan of the blue and white tile with the rest of the kitchen though...it seems like they loved it and added it last minute as it doesn’t vibe with the rest of the room, IMO!
ReplyDeleteThe range hood is stunning.
DeleteLove this kitchen and agree with the two other readers about the blue and white tile, which, to my eye, is too much contrast to the glorious subtlety of the wallpaper and calm feel of the rest of the room. all-in-all, a beautiful room!
ReplyDeleteA more subtle tile would be better, I agree.
