Grandmillennial and Needlepoint

Tory Burch

With staying at home being the new normal for now and grandmillennial style on the rise, needlepoint is having a real moment again. Needlepoint kits have been selling like hotcakes. I too loved needlepoint and had pillows and rugs (particularly Portugese needlepoint rugs) all over my home. I learned to needlepoint at a wonderful shop in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Over the years, they seemed too granny and I did away with most.

What are your thoughts on this resurgence? I like modern needlepoint with a bit of an edge to it. These Tory Burch are great examples. I have a couple of her pillows. Tory's father loved to needlepoint and taught her. I love the mix of Chinoiserie and modern needlepoint.

Jonathan Adler has lots of fun needlepoint as well. And I am still hunting for a vintage needlepoint gaming table cover in pink and green.

This Jonathan Adler needlepoint alligator pillow is a new eBay find of mine and a wink to the alligators in my backyard lake.

  1. I love needlepoint pillows, the more whimsical the better.

  2. Jennifer Boles included needlepoint in her book "In With The Old" with the advice not to overdo it. It's one of the things that I look for at estate sales because of the uniqueness of each piece.

  3. I love needlepoint. I have an English bulldog pillow and a monkey pillow. I have a kit to make a footstool, but have never done it.

  4. Needlepoint is beautiful, but I'm afraid I just don't have the patience. It requires real dedication to complete a project. I like the modern needlepoint too.

    1. Yes, it is very time consuming. Some people find it relaxing. I do not have the patience for it either.

  5. I hate needlepoint! i absolutely find it 'too granny' and almost never beautiful...or stylish....
But the colors in that game table cover are pretty, and it's lively and fun, and the alligator pillow looks great on that chair.

  6. I love needlepoint, all kinds of hand stitching but I don't like to do it, it's time consuming. I made little pumpkins out of small, unfinished pieces I inherited. I was going to make them for all my friends, I made 2 before my hands & patience wore out! Pamela
