The Chinoiserie Dining Room

Brannan Geary - Southern Living

This is a lovely classic dining room in a New Orleans home. The hand painted mural on the four walls combines palms and tropical plants in muted greens and browns. The ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a perfect match for the bronze tones in the room like the dramatic silk curtains.

The Chinoiserie Dining Room

Southern Living

This New Orleans dining room has Florida style, with its chinoiserie palm painted walls and large seashell on the console table. The pup matches the bronze silk curtains. The glass table lightens up the traditional dining chairs.

The Decorator Archives

The Decorator Archives has now launched its website. This will be your "go to" source for the highest quality fine art and prints. They sell both original art and giclees. The collections are meticulously selected by interior designers and are available only online.

The curators of these collections have been in the interior design business for over thirty five years specializing in decorative sets of art and prints, especially large scale art, as well as murals. The collection of Chinoiserie is incredible, but they also have collections of animals, architecture, botanicals, modern, people, and many others. You will always find their link in my sidebar. New pieces are added virtually daily, so check back often.

Prints start at $29.00. You will find everything from single prints up to 5 panel murals 15' wide by 8' high. I know that many of us thought that Chinoiserie art, panels, and murals were only for the very rich and just a dream for the rest of us. Well, stop dreaming and make it happen with this wonderful source. Here is a recent post of mine with a gallery of rooms with framed Chinoiserie panels. I will now spend the rest of my morning pouring over all these stunning choices. Over and out.

The Chinoiserie Murals of Michael Dillon

These stunning murals and decorative painting are the work of Irish artist Michael Dillon. His commissions include fantasy murals, historical decorations, trompe l'oeil, furniture, and luxury packaging. He has done commissions around the world including North America, the West Indies, Africa, France, Spain, England, and Ireland. If you have been to London, you may have seen his work at the Fountain Restaurant and Food Hall at Fortnum & Mason. He particularly enjoys combining people, animals, landscapes, and architecture in "Excursions into Fantasy."I of course am especially drawn to his Chinoiserie work some of which is pictured here. Learn more about him here.
