Using Antique Saris

This Antique Indonesian Bamboo Table and Stool Set available on Etsy is quite lovely, but what intrigued me most was that the stools have been upholstered using antique quilted saris. Remnants of antique kimonos and saris are quite easy to find on places like eBay and Etsy and using them to upholster stools, benches, ottomans, and the like is a wonderful idea to borrow.

Latest Chinoiserie Finds

Here are three of my latest Chinoiserie finds. Above, a beautiful and huge antique blue and white ginger jar on eBay for $50. Just below, three reverse glass Chinoiserie paintings framed in gold bamboo for $56 on eBay. Bottom, a lovely vintage silk kimono with obi sash at a local thrift store for $60. Perhaps my best find ever is en route to me right now. I can't wait to share it with you!

Chinoiserie Costumes as Art

Continuing with our series on Chinoiserie walls, today we look at Chinoiserie costumes as art. From Japanese silk kimonos, to Chinese opera costumes, to Chinese dragon robes, one of these hung on a wall would make a stunning focal point for any room. It can be framed under glass or hung from a decorative hanger or wooden rod that can be purchased just for this purpose. Silk fragments of these costumes are also wonderful framed. Antique examples can be found on eBay, flea markets, and antique stores.
