Wedgwood Dynasty

This pattern by Wedgwood called Wedgwood Dynasty is a new version of my wedding china Wedgwood Chinese Tigers with the addition of a Greek key border as opposed to a gold scalloped edge. If you are looking for a china pattern with great Chinoiserie pizazz, this is a fabulous choice. The chargers or salad plates would also be wonderful to mix and match with white china.

My Chinoiserie Luncheon

I will be hosting a little luncheon this week and did a test run of my table setting with my Home, James! chargers, Horchow bamboo flatware, Lunt New York Botanical Garden glasses, Horchow foo dog salt and pepper, and $2 each Wedgwood "Eastern Flowers" salad plates from my favorite thrift store. Setting the Chinoiserie Table-China Patterns

Today we take a look at my favorite Chinoiserie china patterns. I know that the conventional wisdom is to choose a white plate with a simple band so you won't tire of it. I would be tired of that the day I got it. My wedding china is Wedgwood Chinese Tigers and I still love it. I would no more have simple white china than I would have white walls in my home. To me both show an absence of style and imagination. Buy what you love for your home and you will never go wrong. Above is the classic Royal Crown Derby Old Imari.

Wedgwood Chinese Tigers

The bowl pictured here is my latest find this past Sunday at the Georgetown Flea Market. The pattern is Wedgwood Chinese Tigers. Originally produced by Wedgwood in 1815, it was resurrected by Wedgwood in the 1980s and was produced in green, red, and blue. It was part of their Williamsburg Collection. It was my wedding china and I have full service for 8 plus all of the serving pieces. Mine is in the green. It features scalloped pieces, gold trim, and the foo or fu dog motif. Pieces in blue and red are quite rare and highly sought after by collectors. The lovely bowl I found is in mint condition. I always set the table with my green Chinese Tigers for the Christmas holidays. I'm thrilled to have this red bowl, which I plan to use with my matching green one for a great display on the sideboard or mantel for Christmas decorating. The room set for tea with Chinese Tigers is in the home of Lord Wedgwood from the book At Home with Wedgwood: The Art of the Table by Tricia Foley. The pattern has been discontinued, but can be found on eBay and replacement china sources.

Chinoiserie China Patterns

This gorgeous china pattern Wedgwood Cuckoo was suggested by the very sophisticated Stefan of Architect Digest who is an avid china collector. Part of their Williamsburg Collection, it was made by Wedgwood from 1973-1995. It is multicolor, with flowers and a bird on a white background with gold edge. I think the colors are absolutely stunning. It is hard to imagine an elegant Chinoiserie influenced dining room that this would not be fabulous in. An insider tip-if you are looking for Wedgwood patterns, spell it "Wedgwood" and "Wedgewood." Wedgwood with no "e" is the correct spelling, but it is often misspelled. Happy hunting!
