I was in HomeGoods yesterday and spotted this fabulous book set The Tom Sheerer Compendium. It includes his books Tom Scheerer Decorates and Tom Scheerer More Decorating in a beautiful cane sleeve.

I think leopard works with just about anything and is at its best perhaps with Chinoiserie. Check out this wonderful vignette by Tom Scheerer with Quadrille bamboo trellis wallpaper, an antique shell back chair, leopard carpet, and velvet smoking slippers.

I think large scale wallpapers are the most dramatic in smaller spaces like powder rooms, hallways, and foyers. I love Tom Scheerer's use of Clarence House The Vase in the hallway and stairway of his waterfront vacation home in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. Below are some other interesting examples.

Pink and Gray in the Spotlight

Everyone seemed to love the pink and gray post yesterday and especially this entryway by Tom Scheerer. It features grisaille wallpaper in shades of gray, a Wiliam IV pier table, and a pair of coral slipper chairs by Billy Baldwin.

My favorite touch is the pair of sconces with lampshades covered in the grisaille paper and lined in coral pink. I am generally not a big fan of patterned lampshades, but these are very much an exception. I do love lining lampshades in pink silk - the pink makes the whole room glow.

An even easier way to get that flattering soft pink glow - pink light bulbs. BTW, they are colored bulbs and not covered by the phase-out of incandescents. My favorite are the 50/100/150 Slyvania that I order by the box here. I use them in every lamp in my house.

 In the room above from House Beautiful, Tom Scheerer frames family photos in red bamboo frames. Below, Tobi Fairley pairs classical art in red frames with Chinese lanterns and lamps and a Greek key bordered rug. I love this look of Chinese red picture frames. My go to cheap frame - Ikea's Ribba comes in high gloss red starting at $1.99. The 11 3/4" by 15 3/4" is $9.99 and is matted for 8" by 10" photos and art - a great size for lots of projects. Tom Scheerer Painted Grasscloth Look-A-Like?

A follower of Chinoiserie Chic had the same thought that I did when doing my post on Thibaut's Wisteria-that it would give a similar look to Tom Scheerer's fabulous painted grasscloth.

I'm certain many of you have seen here or elsewhere this stunning interior of Lyford Cay in the Bahamas by Tom Scheerer. What you may not know is how the fantastic wall treatments were created. Grasscloth wallcovering was painted chocolate brown, and then twenty foot white trees, adapted from the tree of life, were hand painted. Do you have grasscloth in your home that is looking dated? Why not paint it, then paint or stencil palm, coconut, or other tropical trees? Below are a few stencil examples from The Stencil Library and Stencil Source.
