Orange Chinoiserie

My favorite paint company, Farrow & Ball, has come out with its new colors for 2011. My favorite is this incredibly dramatic Charlotte's Locks. This could be used to great effect in the Chinoiserie room. Here is some inspiration.

Below, paint a Chinese Chippendale chair orange or a bamboo chair orange as in this room by Heather Collins.

Paint the legs of a faux bamboo stool orange as here.

Paint your walls orange-this room is by Sara Story with wallpaper, but the same result could be achieved with stenciling or faux painting.

Paint one wall orange as below from Domicile Interior Design.

Or perhaps a ceiling as here by Lynn Amon.

The Chinoiserie Bath II

This guest bath at the San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2009 was created by Lynn Amon. It is a truly wonderful example of a very elegant Chinoiserie style. She kept the original fixtures like the marble sink, bringing in stunning Chinoiserie touches. The Chinese Chippendale mirror with its pagoda and double phoenix is a classic choice. I have featured orange before in Chinoiserie rooms, and this ceiling painted tangerine orange is unexpected and perfect. I adore the very sea urchin inspired Chinese lantern lighting fixture. What really inspires me are the walls that she had stenciled with orchids, then over-painted in a faux-linen finish. For other gorgeous baths I have featured  in Chinoiserie Chic click here.
