Mahjong @ CCC

CCC

Lots of mahjong this week at CCC. I had my first mahjong class and I watched all of the excellent free online mahjong 101 videos from Southern Sparrow twice to make sure I absorbed it all.

This set of 4 linen Chefanie mahjong hand towels arrived yesterday embroidered with the Green Dragon, Red Dragon, White Dragon (Soap), Flower, and Joker. (Unfortunately out of stock). They are beautiful. I will use them as napkins when I host.

I am especially excited about a delivery arriving today. I was looking for a set of blue and white  chinoiserie mahjong tiles so I can start practicing hands myself. I came across these and fell in love - blue and white ginger jars, dragons, bamboo, pagodas, porcelain plates, Chinese vases, koi, and the backs are blue. They are engraved and hand painted and come with a tile pouch, dice, and accessories. These are really gorgeous -

And as you can see, they are a great price!! Designer tiles at an excellent price point.

I think the OMM Luna mat would be really pretty with these tiles -

I love all the pretty mahjong things. But I am also really enjoying the mental challenge of mahjong. I saw a coffee mug on instagram that made me laugh.

The classic quote, "It's okay if you don't like Mahjong, it's kind of a smart people game," has become a wildly popular, tongue-in-cheek slogan for mahjong coffee mugs. The game requires serious strategy, sharp memory, and lightning-fast pattern recognition. Interestingly, my mahjong class is full of retired lawyers like me. There is a very experienced group of mahjong players where I live hosted by a former judge and they play Siamese mahjong with two racks of tiles.
