Classic Wicker Is Forever

Serena and Lily

While much of the country is seeing white in the form of snow, this is my idea of white - classic white wicker.

When I saw this picture, it reminded me of how long I have loved and been collecting wicker furniture. In college, I spent a couple of summers in the Hamptons and loved hunting for vintage wicker pieces. I remember having cushions for them made out of Laura Ashley fabric. I was a big Laura Ashley fan in those days. I still have an antique white wicker chaise that was later in my daughter's nursery. It is now in my living room at CCC. The cushion is now vintage Mario Buatta fabric.

If you are somewhere cold today, this picture will have you thinking of warmer days ahead. Here in Venice it will be in the 70s today and 80 tomorrow.

I am not a wood rocking chair person, but I adore these cushioned white wicker rockers. Check out the little navy tassels on the cushions in the top photo - blue and white forever!

  1. Good morning Beth,
We may not be related by blood, but we certainly are in spirit. Wicker on my porches I started collecting on Long Island. Montauk and Glen Cove. After decades with regular cleaning and fresh spray paint it all looks lovely still. Blue and white cushions on one porch and, you guessed it, vintage Mario Buatta on the other. My bedroom also Mario. He will go down as my all time favorite designer. I could have lived in his broom closet.
Serena and Lily were introduced to me through you and I have bought several things from them. A class act. A "One of each please" place.
    Noticed the blue tassels. Fabulous.
Snow gone, sunshine and warm enough to have afternoon tea on the porch, wrapped up in blankets of course. Fortune cookie instead of cake today.,
As always, thank you for all the work and effort you put in to make my world special. My granddaughter would say, "You Rock".
    Life is good.
    K

  2. Beth, love your post. Wicker to me is an intangible Southern tradition. It’s not necessarily comfortable, but it is still a must. Its beauty is timeless.
