Palm Beach Idyll by Slim Aarons |
Yesterday was a challenging day. I was dealing with a dead clothes dryer, all of my neighbors out of town simultaneously, my appointment with the orthopedic surgeon, and a possible hurricane the end of the week. I started shivering uncontrollably which is weird since it is as hot as can be here. I think it was stress related.
So now the good news. Lowe's is coming later this morning with my brand new dryer, the possible hurricane seems less likely to affect this area, and my doctor's appointment went great. The X-rays showed my knee cap is healing very well and I am supposed to wean myself off my immobilizer brace over the next week. That is a bit terrifying since I have only had it off to shower. And the new puppy Bea is very exuberant and always at my side and underfoot, so I am nervous about tripping over her and hurting myself. But I will take things slowly and get there. I start physical therapy to get back muscle strength.
Thanks for all your well wishes and prayers. Life is starting to get back to normal. I think one key to life is resilience. I have spent the last 6 weeks reading, resting, enjoying my puppies and my home, and realizing that in the bigger picture, this is rather minor. So onward and upward. Getting brace fee and driving are next on the agenda.
I love this quote - very on point.
“Life is amazing. And then it's awful. And then it's amazing again. And in between the amazing and awful it's ordinary and mundane and routine. Breathe in the amazing, hold on through the awful, and relax and exhale during the ordinary. That's just living heartbreaking, soul-healing, amazing, awful, ordinary life. And it's breathtakingly beautiful.”

I have been living in my collection of Hill House Home Nap Dresses. I feel dressed (I also wear them out all the time), but they are so comfortable as I have been resting more and elevating my leg and I also sleep in them. I wear one 24/7 and they have been perfect during this period.

Another recovery period find - for years I have been on a search for body moisturizer I love with no success. I want something fragrance free, not greasy, full of natural ingredients, that leaves my skin soft and smooth. I have tried everything from drug store standards to expensive department store versions.
I recently discovered one I am crazy about - Naturium Bio-Lipid Restoring Moisturizing Body Lotion with Shea Butter.

Good morning, Beth. Happy to hear your good news. So true about life. It can be wonderful, horrible and uneventful. It must be really frustrating to be so immobilized for such a long time. Thank you for the body lotion recommendation. I've been searching for a good one that provides hydration and is not too greasy. I will give this one a try.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information about the lotion. Finding a non-greasy, highly absorbable lotion is not easy. I wonder whether you would consider sharing your thoughts on the best sunscreen.
ReplyDeleteWonderful news Beth. Since I start my day having coffee with you, it's always good to hear you are well and on the mend. Your shopping ability has no equal. I too will try the lotion.
ReplyDeleteAs I strangle myself sleeping in gowns or dress of any kind, I had to give it up years ago. A large white t-shirt is as close I come to cute while sleeping.

So glad things have improved and you are in good spirits!
DeleteHi Beth! I am so so glad you are doing better. Yes, I totally concur. Resilience is a key life skill. Will go and order that lotion right now. Your recs have never steered me we wrong, and that pillow ( csper?) is a game changer ). -Linda, nyc
