Christmas Planning

Carolyne Roehm

I decorate for Christmas the week of Thanksgiving which is just a couple of months away, so I am in full planning mode. One project is a tabletop tree that I will put in a large blue and white Chinese ginger jar. I have been collecting some very special ornaments for months that I am having handmade. I am still debating whether I will use a real tree like this one or an upscale pre-lit faux one.

I will definitely opt for battery lights so I don't have a cord to deal with, especially since it may go on my kitchen island. I have a collection of white battery lights that I love. I use them outdoors on my topiaries so I don't see cords which is a pet peeve of mine. Aquarium rocks work well to stabilize the tree in a ginger jar.

My HomeGoods gets a bit frenetic this time of year with Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas decor. You definitely have to multi-task visually switching from one holiday to another, but I love decorating for Halloween and Christmas. My Thanksgiving decorating is really just my John Derian for Target turkeys. Speaking of John Derian for Target, they have brought back some favorites from last year's collection - you can find it here. I have two of the grouse and they are a great size and height for table centerpieces.
