Life

“Life is amazing. And then it's awful. And then it's amazing again. And in between the amazing and awful it's ordinary and mundane and routine. Breathe in the amazing, hold on through the awful, and relax and exhale during the ordinary. That's just living heartbreaking, soul-healing, amazing, awful, ordinary life. And it's breathtakingly beautiful.”

― L.R. Knost

Today is my consultation with the orthopedic surgeon and hopefully I will have good news to share. This has been a challenging few days. I live alone, I can't drive, I have a huge brace on my right leg, and I am suppose to be using crutches and not put weight on the leg. And I of course have the two dogs including a puppy who need to be taken care of. And on top of that, it's off season here and many of my friends and neighbors are snow birds and not in town. But what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and I am figuring it all out.

I have gone grocery shopping, got my hair done, took the pups for grooming, and even went out to dinner with my girlfriend who is leaving town until the fall.

So send good vibes my way today. I'm hoping this will mend on its own with this immobilizer brace on for a few weeks, without surgery. I am all set with Instacart and Uber. I have reached out to all my friends here. I am going to try to catch up on reading and movies and just chilling out.

Thank you for all your comments and support. Hopefully I will have a positive update tomorrow.

  2. We are all here for you Beth. At a good drugstore they have sheepskin parts for the crutches. Get them both for the arms and the hands, otherwise you'll end up in unnecessary pain. You are in my heart. Also make sure the doctor recognizes, you are NO pushover.

  9. Beth, I hope you have found a helper. If not you may try Care.com or possibly A highschooler on summer break. I know it can be tough walking the dogs as I broke my kneecap a few years ago. I had to have someone come in to help with my dog walking and a few daily chores. Wishing you the best good luck with the surgeon

  13. Hi, I it and pasted rather poorly the info from Hertz’ website about their hand controlled rental cars. I did put it in one of the replies a few days ago, maybe you didn’t see it. Not sure how they work but you could call them and get them to describe the process. Tell them about your knee.

    1. This will not work as I have to be too far away from the steering wheel with the brace. Between Uber and friends I do not need a car right now. I am trying to rest, not drive all over. But thanks for the idea.
