She Sells Seashells Down by the Seashore

CCC

Decorating with seashells is quite the thing in Florida, especially in places like Palm Beach. People spend thousands of dollars on shell encrusted mirrors, fireplace mantels, sconces, chandeliers, and the like. I too love seashells at CCC.

When I was in HomeGoods the other day, I spotted this beautiful pair of food covers adorned with hundreds of shells. And much to my delight they were $14.99 each. They will be lovely to use for entertaining both inside and out on the lanai.

It's wild when you think of the labor and materials involved in making these and then transporting them halfway around the world from Vietnam and then still selling them at a profit at this price. Well, they have found a happy home at CCC.

  1. I was on an organized tour of Vietnam, when our bus stopped for lunch at a large building designed to accommodate tour busses. Inside tables were piled with silk embroidered artwork. The price was so very reasonable, time was short, so I quickly selected a piece. When we came home, I had it professionally framed. It looks like it was painted! I cannot imagine the time that went into embroidering it, and there were piles of selections.i have no doubt that the skilled embroiderers were paid very little for their talents. We spoke with young people having a difficult time finding jobs.
My Vietnam vet husband and I had a most wonderful visit in that country. I should add that although he was stationed there, he was so very fortunate in not being in combat.

  2. I’ve been making my own shell artwork like that of Lulu De Kwiatkowski. It’s so fun. Plus I’m showcasing large shells everywhere.
