Lettuce ware is highly collectible and has been for decades. Tory Burch has a wonderful lettuce ware collection she did in collaboration with Dodie Thayer's estate. Dodie was an American artisan and entrepreneur and her story is remarkable. Her ancestors helped settle Palm Beach where she taught herself how to mold pottery from lettuce and cabbage leaves.
Legendary hostesses from C.Z. Guest and the Duchess of Windsor to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis collected her signature lettuce ware. Mario Buatta's collection of lettuce ware sold at auction for $48,000.
I have a small but growing collection and have been looking for something like this pagoda etagere to display it.
Tory Burch has just put several pieces on sale. So pretty - I might have to pick up one of these -
I think up excuses to entertain just so I can trot out my leaf dishes and accessories....think 'garden theme'....
ReplyDeleteUnexpectedly, I found a set of lettuce ware melamine appetizer plates at Marshall's. They coordinate with the green and white Chinese Bouquet melamine table ware from HomeGoods. Now if only I could make myself use melamine!
