Quilted

Frances Valentine

I have always had a fondness for quilted things. My mother was an avid collector of vintage quilts that she kept in an antique Swedish armoire. We used them on our beds except for in the winter when they were switched out for wool Hudson Bay blankets - we lived a block off of Lake Michigan and winters lasted for the better part of 5 months.

Quilted clothes were also popular when I was growing up. I remember my mother and I had quilted hostess skirts that we wore one Christmas for our annual Christmas party.

These two quilted pieces in Frances Valentine's fall collection have such a great vintage but also modern vibe.

Park Quilted Coat in Starburst Print

"Our Park Jacket makes a statement out of outerwear. A mid-length design with ¾-inch sleeves, a Nehru collar, braided blend buttons, and side slits – this heirloom-worthy coat has a lined, quilted design that’s ideal for any occasion. Starburst is a joyful and radiant print – illustrating colorful rays in overlapping circle formations, spontaneously arranged like bursts of light."

I love this hostess skirt version. This would be perfect here in Florida for the holidays.

Hostess Quilted Skirt in Starburst Print

"Imitating straight cuts from the 70s, our Hostess Skirt is a high-waisted maxi with an elastic waistband, bottom slits, side pockets, and crochet button details. Quilting bold prints within heavier fabric, this lined design is ideal for cooler days. Style the Hostess Skirt with our Park Jacket to complete the statement look!"

I love that it has an elastic waistband and pockets.

I would pair this with a classic white cotton shirt - very Carolyne Roehm.

This relaxed fit cotton poplin shirt from J. Crew is a classic and a staple in my closet. (And on a great sale right now). This pairs with anything.

  1. I love the coat. Love the green velvet slacks, love the necklace. Such pretty colors. And the white shirt, popped collar, of course. I grew up with the Hudson Bay blankets too; my father did a fishing trip there with his buddies each summer. Thanks for all the prettiness. 💚
