Slim Aarons

I am a huge fan of the photography of Slim Aarons and have two at CCC. Slim Aarons was an American photographer known for photographing socialites, jet-setters, and celebrities. Interestingly, he never used a stylist or makeup artist. His most famous quote is that he liked "photographing attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places." Many of his iconic photographs were taken in Palm Springs in the 1950s to 1970s.

Crazy that Palm Springs is under a tropical storm warning with the potential for flooding! The last time that California had a tropical storm was 1939. Stay safe if you are out there. I came across this Slim Aarons photo above and was surprised that it is Mrs. A. Watson Armour III (Jean Schweppe) with friends and family enjoying the pool on their estate at Lake Forest, Illinois, circa 1960. 

You can find it here on 1stDibs. I grew up in Lake Forest and had no idea there were any Slim Aarons photos taken there. I wish I had room for it. Unfortunately, the one downside of open floor plans is that there are not as many walls so there is not as much room for art.

    Great picture. I do remember experiencing the tail end of a hurricane when I was a very little girl, but that was in northern California, in the greater SF bay area. We had some very minor flooding on the first floor of our house. It is crazy. I have a cousin in San Diego, and a close friend in the LA area. So far, no wet weather up here in northern CA - knock on wood.
