The Beachy Chinoiserie Living Room

Judith Guest

This is a gorgeous blue and white beachy chinoiserie living room. A follower asked me recently whether one can do an entire room in rattan.

Here the etagere and chairs are rattan and the coffee table and side tables are wood, but white paint unifies everything, including a white shell mirror and white frame on the art. This would have worked with all rattan furniture, but the mix of materials adds much more texture and interest. The wonderful fabrics are Quadrille's Lyford Background on the sofa, Rio on the chairs and pillows, and Aga Reverse on the center pillow.

I think most people shy away from patterned sofas. I had large patterned chintz sofas for years, very Mario Buatta, but now I definitely prefer solid sofas with patterns reserved for pillows and chairs.

But this is a beautiful bright and airy room perfect for a beach property.  I was skulking around and this is another view of the room. Isn't it fabulous?

Here are more photos I found styled somewhat differently when it was on the market - it is a condo in midtown Palm Beach and was listed for $4.4 million. (Palm Beach Daily News)

For those of you in colder temps, wasn't this a fun escape on a cold January day? Sunny and 82° here today in Venice.

  1. I was the follower who asked your opinion about doing an entire room in rattan, Beth. This room is so over the top pretty. I could easily be very happy in this room.
