Early Black Friday Sales & Gift Ideas

Together at the Table

Crazy busy here at CCC. It looks like I am going to be getting a new tile roof courtesy of Hurricane Ian and I was tied up yesterday with roofers and looking at tile samples. I'm deciding whether to stay with my classic Palm Beach barrel terracotta look or go with a more modern gray tile. Decisions decisions... and I am knee deep in making lots of Christmas ornaments and finalizing my Christmas decorating plans.

I'm hoping all these projects mean I can pass on a turkey and fixings for Thanksgiving. (I secretly don't like turkey anyway). Not so secret anymore - LOL. My husband and my daughter and I would always go out to a lovely restaurant for Thanksgiving and none of us ever ordered the turkey.

Lots of my favorite stores are having early Black Friday Sales you should check out. Here are some gift ideas.

First, this book Together at the Table from the husband and wife founders of Juliska would make a great gift.

In Together at the Table, the husband-and-wife founders of Juliska, David and Capucine, share their philosophy on love and the art of living well. Sharing their family stories and traditions for celebrating life’s special moments, they delve into the soulful, the whimsical, and the delightedly imperfect art of entertaining. Their alluring mouth-blown Bohemian glassware and delicately embossed dinnerware make the perfect centerpieces for household bliss. This must-have volume contains hundreds of inspiring ideas about indulging in playful celebrations, how to reinvent the classics by mixing and matching, and the elegance that can be found in both formal and casual dining. A culmination of culture, sentiment, and tradition, Together at the Table is the perfect muse for everyone seeking joy at the table and harmony in the home.

I love Juliska and have many pieces. I have already put out my Reindeer Games plates and matching cocktail napkins.

  1. Been there done that recently with the same tile roof decision. I drove around to get a feel for what’s trending now. Seems most of the Bermuda style homes here on the other coast are going back to the flat tile profile rather than the barrel one. And yes, moving away from the “clays” to grays, charcoals and whites.
    Hard choice.

    1. I didn't mention this, but we can't use flat tiles nor can we use dark tiles like charcoal. Very strict gated community. And I'm not sure I like the gray tiles in the barrel - I prefer them in the flat. I am ordering sample tiles today, but I may drive down to the design center to see everything in person. What did you choose?

    2. Did go back to the flat tile in a grayish shade.
Do go to the tile design center! Worth the drive. I went to the Boral center and boy, was it overwhelming. But after studying the catalogues at home, I wanted to see the tiles in person. They even gave me full sized tiles
to take ( lug ha) home. That made all the difference in helping me choose.
My roofer also ordered me some tiles from Eagle and another tile company whose name escapes me now. They came quickly.
With your good sense of design, you’ll make the right choice!

    3. The other was probably Crown. My neighbor is having a roof done using them. I used Eagle in the Sarasota house and will likely use them again as they have a plant up the road and a much shorter wait time after two hurricanes in a row in Florida. I ordered samples yesterday. Thanks for your input. I will go to the design center in Ft. Meyers as well.

  2. Great post, Beth. The Juliska book is gorgeous. I love Juliska, Julie Vos and Printfresh too. My late mother was a stellar hostess, and fortunately for me, she passed along the hospitality gene to me. For some time in my career, I worked at a five star resort and spa. I loved it.

You have to choose the tiles that you love. If it were me, I would choose the barrel shaped terracotta, or clay colored tiles. Although I live in a completely different geographical area than you, I have a white stucco house with a slightly modern design sensibility and a grey tile roof. It goes with my house, but I have to say that it looks a bit cold to me - just my personal opinion. I would love to switch to the barrel shaped terracotta. I think they are beautiful, but I have too many other home projects that are a priority. Here in CA we have to always take into consideration, the risk of fire, but you Floridians do not. I can't wait to see what you choose!

    1. I ordered samples of the barrel shaped terracotta yesterday - that is what I have and love, but I am very picky with the color and hope I like them. Every single new construction house down here is flat gray tiles and I think I would rather go Old Florida.

  3. You're brave to be thinking about xmas ornaments when you are in the process of a new roof!

  4. Go with the traditional terra cotta tile. Should you need further validation, watch the opening credits of It’s Complicated — Joy, North Palm Beach FL

  5. Grey has had more than a moment, I had my whole house painted Amazing Grey by Sherwin Williams. We sold that house a year ago and have been looking ever since. When I see gray used, whether over used or not, it feels dated. Kind of like “oh, that was 2020”. I grew up on a military base that had most homes done in a stucco and red tile roof. Nostalgic a little for that look. Have fun picking out your new roof!

    1. I agree - all the new construction here is flat gray roofs and it is being overused. I love white stucco and terracotta tiles. I ordered samples.

  6. I agree with Anonymous. Grey was a trend, and nothing dates faster than a trend. Unless it is grey in a Gustavian context, which is beautiful, grey always feels a bit sad to me. It just is not a happy color. I love the architecture of old Florida. It's beautiful, timeless and classic, in my opinion.

    1. I actually don't think it was a trend, but I think its been overused. But my home is very Old Florida and the barrel terracotta are classics.
