Paint Colors for CCC

Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles

Today I will be getting delivery of the paint samples I ordered from Samplize for my exterior painting project. I have narrowed my choices down to two off whites for the stucco, two bright whites for the trim, and two soft blues for my haint blue ceilings in the entrance and the lanai. One word of wisdom - flat paint should always be used on stucco. Any sheen makes the stucco look fake and the texture of the stucco causes ugly shading of the paint.

The beautiful home above is painted in the very popular Sherwin Williams Alabaster. The perfect creamy white, it is a very versatile color that looks good on any style home - Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper uses it a lot and it is the color of their farmhouse living room. I love this color, but will need to make sure it doesn't wash out too much in the strong Florida light.

I'm thinking about Sherwin Williams Extra White for the trim and Benjamin Moore Glass Slipper for my haint blue ceilings in the entrance and lanai. Glass Slipper was in the foyer of my Alexandria home and I love this blue. It is gorgeous in bedrooms and baths.

The other palette option I am considering are these lovely colors. I used Benjamin Moore Classic Gray on the interior of my home and absolutely adore this color. It is a wonderful off white with gray and beige and is very elegant. With my open floor plan and indoor/outdoor living, it would be a seamless transition between the inside and outside of the house. Of course it will read lighter outdoors in sun. Chantilly Lace is a gorgeous trim color and Constellation is a lovely soft sky blue.

My painters are scheduled for later in February. It's funny doing exterior painting in the winter since I am a northerner, but this is the dry season here with temps in the 70s, so this is perfect painting weather. I will update once I play with these colors in/on my home.

And my two cents on choosing paint colors. Unless you have a true knack for choosing paint colors yourself, go online and read articles - there are tons - on interior designer favorites for your particular project. For example, Google haint blue paint colors - you will find many articles showing paint samples and rooms they have been used in. Unless you really want to educate yourself on LRV and undertones and such, do this shortcut. You will see lots of overlap in their paint favorites. This will help you narrow down your choices as it can be overwhelming with the thousands of colors.

There is also a book I really like - House Beautiful asked lots of interior designers their favorite paint colors and turned it into handy little guide.

I prefer Benjamin Moore Aura and Sherwin Williams Duration or Emerald for exterior paint.

    1. Love that you are using Alabaster. I have most of my rooms painted in this color and love it. I think you'll be happy with the results.

  2. The paint colors you have chosen are lovely, and OMG, choosing paint colors has to be one of the most difficult things to accomplish in interior design. Just looking at paint colors makes me go cross-eyed. Thanks for the tip about painting on stucco. I have a house where the exterior is a flat white stucco, with a light blue painted under the eves, or overhangs. It's quite pretty, actually, but I have absolutely no idea what color white it is.

    1. There are too many choices. Most people get overwhelmed. Also, you can't choose a paint color from a chip which is what most people do.

  3. Lovely. My question is whether you will paint the front door an accent color? My bedroom is Glass Slipper and I love it!

    1. No accent color. I have double French doors and really do not like French doors in anything but white. Also, the entrance has blue and white patterned tiles, blue and white Chinese garden stools and fishbowls, and will have a haint blue painted ceiling. So I think anything but white would be too much.
