An Eclectic Dining Room

Emma Grant - House & Garden UK

I really love this eclectic dining room in the Regent Park London flat of interior designer Emma Grant. The chairs are vintage bamboo. The curved marble topped table is 19th century. This wonderful table reminds me of a grand piano. The high ceilings and millwork are stunning.

All pieces in the apartment are from auctions, flea markets, or salvaged. I quite love the look of a home's decor evolving over time with treasured pieces. I also love the use of vintage bamboo dining chairs here - it demonstrates the flexibility of rattan. If you are interested in learning more about rattan, I really recommend this book. It traces the history of rattan and its use by interior designers and tastemakers.

I will update my exterior painting and kitchen appliance projects this coming week.

  1. Excited to see what kitchen appliances you have picked out. New paint always makes a home feel clean and updated.

    1. Exciting projects, but the appliances are a lot of choices.

  2. This is one of the most beautiful examples of less is more I have ever seen. Exercising restraint is difficult, especially for us “stuff” people. This glorious space is clean and fresh, almost modern looking, despite its moldings and older furnishings. Stunning.

  3. Beautiful moulding. If you are fortunate enough to have a residence with this kind or architecture, it's hard to go wrong. I love all the elements in this room. I'm not so sure I like them together. The chairs seem a bit delicate to pair with such a heavy, substantial table.

    1. I personally love the juxtaposition. I think heavy chairs would weigh down the space.

    2. Beth, love this so much. I agree with you about the table and chairs working together. I think the table is very airy compared to lots of tables from that period and it works beautifully. The room is simply elegant.
