Pumpkins Gone Wild

Town and Country

The look for Halloween (on instagram at any rate) seems to be to buy as many pumpkins as is humanly possible for your front entrance. There are many examples, but this one stopped me in my tracks.

I give up, how do you get up these steps?

What is the story here? Please weigh in with your guess in the comments.

A. They just use their side entrance.

B. This is the Covid version of trick or treating i.e. stay away.

C. Pumpkin hoarders.

D. Social anxiety disorder.

E. Historic home not open to the public.

F. No candy here.

  3. All of the above—I like it! (Better than a no soliciting sign.)

  4. It's a pretty clear message that friends and family use the side entrance, to me!

  5. I think the pumpkins are arranged this way just for an eye catching photograph.

  6. Your post made me LOL! Love your wit. I think you nailed all the best guesses. I would add no solicitations, look don’t enter, and a classier option than an #It’sFallY’all sign - haha!

  9. I am sure there is another entrance they use but it could also be that they are away so why not?

Not my choice of fall decor with pumpkins but whatever floats their boat. I've seen worse on the pages of well known magazines. It's kind of amusing how shifty their standards are.

  10. Only witches on brooms can fly over the "pumpkin patch" to the front door!

  11. I think it’s all of the above! Or maybe, “please use the service entrance!”

  12. Ha! Beth, you are a funny lady. My first guess would be an attempt at a photo shoot, but if that is the case, it's very sloppily done.

    1. Hysterical. The shortage is regional - I noticed the pumpkins I got at Whole Foods were from Illinois where there was a good crop.

  15. Since you posted the exact address, I Googled it. I actually walked by their home this past July on a trip to Woodstock. It's a darling town. The neighborhood is right on the main street among cute shops and restaurants. Maybe they decorate this way to keep the tourists from knocking on their front door during the busy Vermont "Leaf Peeper" season!
