My Gold Bamboo Flatware Finds

via Weston Table

When I was working on the post the other day on bamboo flatware, I looked to see what was available on eBay. I happened upon a brand new vintage set of discontinued Reed & Barton Gold Regal Bamboo flatware still in its plastic sleeves and box - eight place settings and six serving pieces. There was a serious bidding war, but I was able to snag it in the last few seconds.  This flatware is highly collectible and I have never seen a brand new complete set. Sellers generally sell it by the piece. Lucky find. Here it is below.

Reed & Barton Regal Bamboo

I am not usually a fan of gold flatware, but this has a delicacy and organic quality that I really love. I like the way the gold bamboo oyster forks are styled casually in the top picture with blue and white striped linen and seashells and shellfish pottery. The mix of the fancy gold with a more casual nautical vibe is fun and unexpected. The juxtaposition of the gold with rustic really works for me.

I had not been on eBay recently, but this has motivated me to return. Here are some ideas for getting this look.

I love these rustic nautical blue and white Annie Selke napkins reduced from $80 to $48 for a set of 4 available here.

Nautical Linen Napkins

I also like these stone washed linen napkins, all these colors are on sale.

And some fun plates -

I love sea urchins. These Aerin Lauder sea urchin salt and pepper shakers are on sale too.

And the perfect sea urchin earrings to wear with a fabulous caftan after setting the table with all of this.

And I just found the exact same oyster forks pictured in the top photo on Etsy and ordered them. This house is about to be awash in gold bamboo. I've always called them cocktail forks. Now I'm in the mood for oysters or shrimp cocktail.

  1. Love Ebay - and have snagged some FABULOUS deals on Mottahedeh Blue Canton & Blue Imperial. Just FWIW - if it's a BID - and not Buy it Now or BEST OFfER listing - I usually mark the ending time and then if it's still in my pricing range - I place my well thought out bid (LOL) in the final 30 seconds. Kudos to YOU on your DEAL :)

    1. I have purchased hundreds of items on eBay. I use a bidding program that bids with 6 seconds left and have never lost an auction unless my bid was too low of course.

  9. Definitely your steal of the summer 2021! Love that set. I have a service for 8 in gold bamboo that I purchased in 1985 and am still hanging on to it, just because it is such amazing quality and looks good wherever I use it. Ebay is my favorite rabbit hole, to be sure!

    1. Do you know the manufacturer - just curious. I think the key is promptly hand washing and drying.

  10. So I recently purchase a complete set of gold bamboo flatware (polished brass) on craigslist for $200 which is a steal! Since, I didn't want to be bothered by the hand washing required I did some research and found a company that makes a special coating for metal that is food safe and dishwasher safe. It's called Everbrite Protectaclear Crobial Coat with Microban from RenewMetal.com
