I am not usually a fan of gold flatware, but this has a delicacy and organic quality that I really love. I like the way the gold bamboo oyster forks are styled casually in the top picture with blue and white striped linen and seashells and shellfish pottery. The mix of the fancy gold with a more casual nautical vibe is fun and unexpected. The juxtaposition of the gold with rustic really works for me.
I had not been on eBay recently, but this has motivated me to return. Here are some ideas for getting this look.

And I just found the exact same oyster forks pictured in the top photo on Etsy and ordered them. This house is about to be awash in gold bamboo. I've always called them cocktail forks. Now I'm in the mood for oysters or shrimp cocktail.

Love Ebay - and have snagged some FABULOUS deals on Mottahedeh Blue Canton & Blue Imperial. Just FWIW - if it's a BID - and not Buy it Now or BEST OFfER listing - I usually mark the ending time and then if it's still in my pricing range - I place my well thought out bid (LOL) in the final 30 seconds. Kudos to YOU on your DEAL :)
ReplyDeleteI have purchased hundreds of items on eBay. I use a bidding program that bids with 6 seconds left and have never lost an auction unless my bid was too low of course.
DeleteThe gold bamboo is really elegant. That was a great find!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It arrives tomorrow.
DeleteWhat’s the eBay bidding program?

Thanks - those earrings are wonderful.
DeleteI try to buy up any and all of these gold bamboo pieces but only have the sets of the tid bit forks and spoons and spreaders...I'd DIE for the regular sized flatware!!! WOW!
ReplyDeleteAnd she included 8 more new of the spoons and it arrives tomorrow!
DeleteWhat is the bidding program you speak of? I love ebay!

DeleteEverything is a delight!
ReplyDeleteThey're beautiful. You made a great score, Beth. I would love to know what a bidding program is too. I've never heard of this.
ReplyDeleteIt bids for you. I've been using it for almost 20 years. eSnipe.
DeleteDefinitely your steal of the summer 2021! Love that set. I have a service for 8 in gold bamboo that I purchased in 1985 and am still hanging on to it, just because it is such amazing quality and looks good wherever I use it. Ebay is my favorite rabbit hole, to be sure!
ReplyDeleteDo you know the manufacturer - just curious. I think the key is promptly hand washing and drying.
DeleteSo I recently purchase a complete set of gold bamboo flatware (polished brass) on craigslist for $200 which is a steal! Since, I didn't want to be bothered by the hand washing required I did some research and found a company that makes a special coating for metal that is food safe and dishwasher safe. It's called Everbrite Protectaclear Crobial Coat with Microban from RenewMetal.com
ReplyDeleteGood to know. My mint condition never used Reed & Barton complete set of 54 pieces was under $200.
