Do You Have a House Wine?

Vol du Flamant Rosé

I love the idea of a house wine for CCC. When I was growing up in Lake Forest, Illinois, my parents' house red and white wines were French wines - La Foret - pretty close. Having a house wine is a great idea. It's a well priced wine you always have on hand, perfect for a drink on the deck or lanai, for a casual meal, or for entertaining.

When I happened upon this French rosé the other day with the pink flamingo on it, I thought it would be a perfect house wine for Florida for CCC. I am enjoying red wines less in the Florida heat, and a dry French rosé is a nice alternative. It would look very pretty in these mint green Estelle Colored Glass Champagne coupes. What is more Florida than pink and green?

Is it improper to drink still wine out of champagne coupes? I love champagne served in a coupe, so why not for still wine? It's very pretty. This style glass is also perfect for many cocktails like a martini, a Manhattan, or a daiquiri.

But the stem glasses in mint green would also be gorgeous.

I have not tried the wine yet, but will report back when I do. Do you have a house wine? What is it? Please no box wines - LOL.

And more pink - is this the cutest styling with the Estelle Cake Stand in Rose with the bamboo flatware and Chinese Chippendale chair?

And more pink -

Robin Weiss - Traditional Home

Speaking of pink, at 10:00 this morning, I have a meeting with the President of the Board of the HOA and the Chairman of the Architectural Review Board here with me briefing them on color theory, color selection, and why their new exterior paint color palette choices (that we are required to choose from) are HIDEOUS beyond belief.

They have gone from the dated Tuscan colors to ugly boring beige in 50 different versions. Over my dead cold body. I will let you know how it goes. Spoiler alert - not well. Beige, beige, and more beige. You've heard of Fifty Shades of Grey? This is Fifty Shades of Beige. I am wearing pink to the meeting and have a whole new palette for them.

BTW, the house above is painted in Benjamin Moore Ballet Slippers.

I did go to the Le Creuset outlet yesterday and will give details tomorrow. And I have scored three Le Creuset pieces this week.

  3. Good luck. More than the pink cake stand in your photos, I love the dress the model is wearing. Mandarin collar and beautiful colors.

  4. I, too, love the idea of a house wine for CCC!!! Hope your 10 AM meeting goes your way.....those guys just don't know who they are dealing with.....

    1. I made some headway - dealing with Boards is always awful - they are power and control freaks.

    2. If they're not corrupt, you're ahead of the game. On the bright side, bribery is not always frowned upon, so you could give it a shot.

  5. I believe Macy's has your house wine almost half off in their Wine Store. What a perfect label for your exquisite Florida home. I hope your color meeting goes well.

    1. Thanks - I saw that at Macy's but if you look under the price it says it's unavailable. I can get plenty at a great price if I like it. I made some progress at the meeting - thank you.

  6. I adore pink houses! My HOA is even worse...there are two colors, brown and beige, and every 8 years houses are repainted in one of them. My only relief from that is green shutters.

  7. Beth, you remind me of my dad, chemist and amateur artist. He'd say with a groan, "Oh, great... Another shade of beige."

  8. I desperately wanted to paint our house a pretty shade of pink a few years ago and my husband, not a HOA, forbid it. I usually just do what I want and he doesn't care at all, but he had very strong feelings about having a pink house. Hope you win with your HOA!

    1. I am not even trying to do pink - they just picked fifty bad palettes of beige because the Architectural Review Committee is clueless and color blind.

  9. The rose bottle is certainly beautiful, the wine is certainly beautiful, and fits your abode perfectly, but how does it taste? I realize that is a question relevant to one's individual taste preferences. I've purchase roses before, always at the recommendation of a sommelier, or someone who has knowledge and experience with wine, but have always been a bit disappointed. I suppose one has to keep trying until they find the one that works for them. I'm not a big wine drinker anyway, which is blasphemous for a Californian to say! I much prefer a cocktail, but I've found a Sancerre that I think is fabulous and the sommelier at my grocery store says it is one that many people enjoy. I'm not sure what your price point is, but it is Vincent Gaudrey Sancerre, and I always keep at least two bottles on hand. I highly recommend it, and if you try it, I would love to know your's and your readers' honest opinions.

I'm reminded of that episode of "Sex and the City", where Big, (when referring to his wife's taste), says to Carrie, "We only have tiny beige furniture. Beige is b******t". (I couldn't agree more.) Then after he separates from his wife, he paints his bedroom wall this very brilliant, sexy shade of red!

I can't get over how gorgeous Robin Weiss's pink palace is. I know you've posted about it before, but every time I see it, I fall in love with it all over again. It's so tropical, and so Florida. I love pink, but I can see where a man might feel an aversion to a color so associated with femininity, but maybe after they actually see it on the house, they might feel differently. Don't sell it as pink, Beth. Give it another name. "Dawn's Early Light", or something. I think some pinks can come across as quite sophisticated. Perhaps if it were a shade of pink leaning a little more towards a soft coral, they might be more receptive.

I love coupe shaped glasses too. My favorite crystal is Rogaska, and the pattern is "Gallia". I have eight of their coupes and I use them for margaritas, cosmopolitan, martinis. I'm planning to add more of this pattern to my collection.

Work on the paint color. Use your powers of persuasion. I believe you can finesse this.

    1. I love wine but can't stand the vast majority of California wines. I am strictly Old World - I love French, Spanish, and Italian and am quite knowledgeable. I love Sancerre but cringe at the prices nowadays as it was always a cheap table wine in France. It was Ernest Hemingway's favorite wine. I do prefer Pouilly-Fumé but often have Sancerre with seafood.

I just like the visual of the pink flamingo and a dry French rosé is a great every day wine.

Sex and the City was a great favorite of mine and I've seen every episode at least twice.

Regarding the house colors, I am not even suggesting pink. The Architectural Review Committee just did a terrible job and they are clearly color blind. I am trying to improve and diversify their lousy choices and made some progress.

  10. Our house wine is Chandon Rose—sparkling pink in a pink labeled bottle. I buy the mini bottles, chill them, and serve them in a chilled glass—perfect for our Charleston SC climate…

  11. What a cute label on the wine bottle-looking forward to hearing how you like the taste!
In reference to your hoa color selection, I wish you luck! It probably comes down to them doing the easy thing but if you’re able to simplify it for them maybe you have a chance of not living in a sea of beige! Here in Florida, I think it’s pretty to sprinkle in some happy pastels.
I love a pink house too but it has to be the right pink! There’s one in my neighborhood that I just love, it has black and white striped awnings and a black door and it’s perfection.
