Setting the Chinoiserie Table - Bamboo Flatware

Tahiti by Buccellati Bamboo & Silver Flatware

I was asked by a follower about heirloom quality bamboo flatware. This example above is certainly the quintessential example.

The Tahiti cutlery was born in the 1960s on original drawings by Gianmaria Buccellati and upon specific request of an influential Italian industrialist, who ordered it for his yacht. This flatware in silver and bamboo evokes the Polynesian natural wonders and presents a combination of high elegance and eco-sustainability. The name of the collection is tightly linked to the memory of Paul Gauguin, who lived in Tahiti during the last period of his life and who was very much inspired by the island for his paintings portraying the women of Tahiti and its wonderful landscapes. The house of Buccellati is one of the world's premier silversmiths.

This Buccellati Tahiti pictured below was in the estate of Mario Buatta auctioned off by Sotheby's. The 174 piece set was estimated at $5,000 to $7,000 and ultimately went for $93,750.

  2. So many gorgeous choices and I love the inspiration photos. The one where they mixed bamboo and silver flatware is such a neat idea. That Tahiti pattern is so beautiful. Lovely post.

  3. I have a set in stainless and faux bamboo. Both from Horchow. Very inexpensive and so much fun to use. I like to have several different sets to coordinate with different china patterns. Most I've bought at Horchow during their flash sales.
I hope Fred will not wear out you're umbrellas. I'm not looking forward to his visit but I enjoy an umbrella rain every once in awhile. If only to have an extra glass of Chandon Brut. Housewine of choice for years. "I only drink champagne when I'm in love and when I'm not" said Coco Channel. Wise woman, but not a nice woman.

    1. Fred is so far off shore that we have had nothing. You can never have enough bamboo flatware - LOL. Chanel was not only a nasty bitch, she was a paid Nazi spy.

    2. WOW! I knew she was in cahoots with the Nazi's, but I didn't know she was paid for it. If I am not mistaken, she had to sell a portion, or all, of her fashion house because she was in financial trouble. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think she sold to a Jewish business man and his brother, hence the alliance with the Nazis to regain control of it. I'm certainly not attempting to justify what she did, but I believe that was the reason she did it. There have been numerous books written about her, but I've yet to find one that is really readable. For such a fascinating subject, they are all rather dull and labor intensive to read.

    3. Have you read Sleeping With the Enemy? She was an anti-semite who spied for the Nazis and whose success was largely due to sleeping her way to the top. It was her perfume line that she had a Jewish investor and she hoped the Aryan laws which forbade Jews from owning businesses would return the profits to her.
