My Blue and White Lanai

CCC

I wanted my lanai to be a serene space and not compete with my gorgeous view of the preserves. The preserves are so "Old Florida" with ancient live oaks, Spanish moss, palms, a pond and lovely forest creatures.

I also wanted it to be low maintenance and impervious to Florida sun, humidity, thunderstorms, and tropical storms. Here is a tour.

I tiled it in octagonal gray cement tiles that I love. Classic but modern.

The crab is discontinued Nate Berkus for Target - probably my favorite Target collection ever.

I love my Jolly Time Cocktail Napkins from Amanda Lindroth. A pink Fiat Jolly with wicker seats is my dream Florida car. I will need to start playing the lottery though. They are rare and crazy expensive. The vintage Fitz & Floyd dish was a housewarming gift from a neighbor and follower.

I was planning to have the lanai entirely blue and white until I saw the striped coral wicker table at HomeGoods and had to have it. I love the pop of color.

I have discovered that queen size duvet covers make great tablecloths. Custom tablecloths are very expensive and I find few ready made that I love. This is a Ralph Lauren batik in a beautiful heavy fabric - another HomeGoods score!!! Since it has a reverse side, it drapes beautifully and it even has navy blue piping and little navy blue fabric covered buttons. I think it's gorgeous. I often see these high end Ralph Lauren duvet covers at HomeGoods for great prices and have several.

This framed piece of art is from Wonderwall in Austin, Texas and retails for $295. I got it the other day at HomeGoods for $16. LOL

I freshened up my Smith & Hawken outdoor dining set with new navy and white striped Sunbrella cushions from the Company Store. They are elegant, comfortable, and imperious to everything.

Sunbrella Replacement Chair Cushions

My only real purchase for the lanai was this pair of resin wicker slipper chairs from Wayfair. They are chic and comfortable and the prefect perch for me to read, have a cocktail, or just sit and take in my view. A secret tip. They come in your choice of 12 different color cushions. Do not order the beige. If you order navy, or gray, or white, or whatever other color, they ship them in the beige pictured here and they send the other color cushion covers separately. You end up with a spare pair for free!! I ordered white but haven't switched them out yet.

I hope you enjoyed my tour. I have been getting so many new followers lately. Are you getting Chinoiserie Chic in your mailbox every day? If not, please subscribe in the box in my sidebar.

I just saw these darling wicker chargers on Clearance at Pottery Barn for $8.99.  These would be great for summer entertaining, indoors or out.

  2. Beautiful! You must elaborate on the use of duvets for tablecloths. Do you have them altered, what size do you buy and how do you drape them over your table?

    1. I do not have them altered, I use queen as I mentioned in the post, and I drape them as any other tablecloth. The more modern look used by many designers is tablecloths like this that are more casual as far as sizing.

  3. Love the tip on using queen-sized duvet covers as tablecloths. So clever! Now I'll have to add a search through the linens dept each time I go to Home Goods, haha.

  6. Great tip about using queen size duvet covers as table cloths. Very ingenious. I love the resin wicker slipper chairs. I will definitely check those out. The Fiat Jolly with wicker seats is just wonderful. How much does one cost?

    1. $100,000 or more at auction. A rather pricey "golf cart" but adorable.
