The Blue and White Entrance

Meg Lonergan - Southern Living

After just redoing my front entrance in blue and white with blue and white tiles, I had to share this intriguing blue and white front entrance. The door is painted in Farrow and Ball Drawing Room Blue. I also love the pagoda style lanterns and the Haint blue ceiling. The floor has a three dimensional illusion that I find a tad disconcerting though. It gives me a bit of vertigo.

  1. That illusion is pretty incredible, at least in the photo. Not sure I’d know where to step, especially after a cocktail or two!!!!
Your entry is beautiful and seemingly much safer.❤️

  2. I saw this yesterday and was wondering whether you would post it! It made me dizzy and I also wasn’t sure if it fit the home. The coloration and other elements are lovely.

    1. The floor makes too much of a statement I think.

  3. I would agree, the floor brings your eyes there, and that is too bad when other lovely things are going on. You made a much better selection.

    1. Thank you. I agree that the floor is distracting.

  4. Love that blue door! The tile makes me unsettled though, I much prefer yours!

  5. Agreed...the floor is a bit unsettling! It actually looks like a painted pattern on the floor boards...could that be?

  6. I'm with you, Beth. I love everything about the first picture except the floor - it makes me a little dizzy!

  7. Not loving that 3-D floor! Your tiled entrance is much better!

  8. Not a fan of the optical illusion pattern especially because it is large scale. Way too large and out of proportion with the other elements. (maybe better around a pool?)

Like the blue door. Beth, I suppose your homeowners assoc. would not allow it, right?

    1. Complicated with the HOA and I love white French doors and would never want to paint them.

    2. Totally get it. I was thinking of this beautiful door/entrance from one of your earlier posts: http://www.chinoiseriechic.net/2021/02/the-chinoiserie-front-door.html

  9. I much prefer yours. The 3d one looks fun but seems like it would be a liability/ tripping hazard!

    1. It's against HOA here and I dislike painted French doors - I love the white.

  12. Did you paint your ceiling pale blue. that would be terrific and pick up floor.

    1. It is 20 feet high so not very visible and against HOA rules, so I am still debating the merits.
