A Unique Kitchen

House Beautiful UK

Pink and green is the ultimate preppy and Palm Beach color palette and it pairs exquisitely with blue and white Chinese porcelain. But a pink and green kitchen? It works for me. I love the dark green cabinets, the pink  hexagonal tiles, the marble counters, and brass faucet, pulls, and sconces. What is the story with the missing tiles at the ceiling level. I assume it is to accentuate the shape of the tiles, but it bugs me.

  2. I agree with you about the tiles. Looks like they ran out of money.

  3. I love the idea of pink and green in the kitchen or the bathroom for that matter, but a personal preference would be for more vibrant shades of each color. The missing tiles above are not doing it for me. Was it really necessary?!

Wish I had the balls to do this combo in my next place but I am always afraid of jeopardizing the resale when the time comes. Removing wall paper and painting over colors you don't like is one thing--pretty expected when you move to a new house--but removing tiles and and painting over cabinetry can be a deal breaker for most people. I would have no qualms of doing it if I love the place but people are funny about things like that. It's not just about the cost to them but the time and hassle involved.

Still...it would be great to do what makes you happy, everything else be damned. So yes, a pink and green kitchen would make me happy.

  4. The missing tiles might be to mimic an awning?

  5. I think this is a very interesting kitchen, but one for someone who never cooks. Can you even imagine the grease that would accumulate on the bottom of the shelf above the cooktop? I'm with you about the missing tiles. When we purchased our first house in 1978, it had a pink kitchen!! Pink cabinets and pink wallpaper!

    1. I dislike open shelving in kitchens with a passion. Magnets for mess and grease. A pink kitchen!

  6. This is a very cool kitchen. I'm not sure what the deal is with the missing tiles at the top either. At first I thought those were white tiles, but you're right, there is nothing there. Hmmm...maybe they ran out of pink ones. Oh well.

    1. Yes, the post was really about the colors - the missing tiles and the shelf are terrible.

  7. Imagine how much better this would look without that cluttered shelf of kitsch.

    1. You are preaching to the choir as I can't stand open shelving in kitchens.

  9. Just a bit of friendly disagreement. I kind of like the missing tiles up top -- looks like a border of sorts. And while I normally don't like open kitchen cabinets/shelves, that kitsch shelf is lovely, especially if it's changed with fun, personal and well-loved knick-knacks for the different seasons. Vive la difference!
