Colonial Williamsburg |
My daughter Kate is in Williamsburg for a few days. Colonial Williamsburg at Christmas is so charming. She took some photos yesterday and this one really caught my eye. I have posted before about how pineapples play a big role in both tropical and colonial decorating.
Here is another example - wicker. I love the wicker bells - vintage ones are easily found on Etsy. With some tweaking, this wreath would be great for tropical decor as well - perhaps with sea shells or palm fronds. This door apparently won a blue ribbon.
Beautiful and unusual. I have always looked to Williamsburg for their Christmas decorations using natural materials. I usually attach fruit to an evergreen wreath. This is an interesting alternative. I love the wicker bells! I have several books from Colonial Williamsburg on Christmas decorations and flower arranging which I enjoy using for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteAlexandria is wonderful for this as well. Nobody uses fresh here because of the heat. Vintage wicker bells like these are easily found on Etsy.
DeleteColonial Williamsburg is my absolute favorite place in the world! Last year we went for a week the first week in December to see all the holiday decorations. I took so many pictures! We always stay at the Williamsburg, which I also adore.
ReplyDeleteI love the Williamsburg Inn - especially from Thanksgiving to Christmas.
DeleteColonial Williamsburg informed my holiday decorating decades ago when our children were young. Never did anything with fresh fruit, only faux, due our hot weather. I love that place, it's a treasure. Pamela
ReplyDeleteIn Alexandria and Williamsburg for the judged doors, no faux is allowed. They have to switch the fruit out to keep it fresh depending on the weather.
