From the Garden

Lavender Anouk

I did all of my Black Friday shopping yesterday from the computer, so I had time for some gardening. I had found at Home Depot on Wednesday two plants that I am delighted to add to the garden.

The first is Lavender Anouk with beautiful silver foliage, deep purple flowers, and lavender bracts. It has a wonderful scent, is drought tolerant, and will stand up to the hottest of summers.

Agave Lopantha Quadricolor

My second find was Agave Lopantha Quadricolor. I love agave and am thrilled to be in a zone where I can grow them. This one stays small - only 18" in diameter and has the most beautiful variegation - dark green to pale yellow green down the center of each leaf.

Did everyone have successful Black Friday shopping experiences? Of course, the majority of Christmas shopping is being done online this year - it sure beats dealing with parking and crowds.

  1. You will have to keep me updated on your lavender. The only lavender I have been able to keep going through the summer is a variety called "Phenomenal" and that's only because I keep it in a pot and have it under the overhang of my house where it doesn't get all the summer rains. All other lavenders I have planted eventually rot from too much summer rain and the heat. I hope you have found the perfect Florida lavender!

    1. I will. It is a risk free experiment because Home Depot gives a one year plant guarantee. I have given it a western exposure and it is in the sandiest of soils so we will see. I have rosemary and lavender and jasmine and gardenias outside the lanai and it is wonderful.

    2. Beth- suggest you keep the pot that the plants came from and obviously the receipt - my local home deport requests " both items " to honor the guarantee. That might be a regional sales requirement though......both choices look lovely!

    3. I just rechecked their written nationwide policy and it is the dead plant and receipt - not the pot. Yours cannot alter a written HD policy.

  2. I love Lavender. Agave is a wonderful plant to have on hand if you ever get a sunburn, but don't forget to wear your sunscreen, Girlfriend.

  3. Get some aloe for your sunburn, bites, even your hair. Use agave in case you feel like making tequila.😀

    1. I don't sunburn. And yes, agave should be used for tequila.
