Caftans

From My Collection

I posted before about how caftans have been a staple of tropical dressing for centuries and in South Florida for decades. Light, breezy, and chic, they work here morning, noon, and night. With the pandemic and staying at home more, they have become my wardrobe. I even sleep in one. I am wearing this one above right now. They are great as nightgowns, beach coverups, loungewear, and going out as well - I just add a pair of statement earrings, a straw bag, Jack Rogers sandals, and I am dressed for anywhere - things don't get too dressy here BTW. Venice and Sarasota are far more casual than Palm Beach.

I especially love the ones by Rujuta Sheth. Made of rayon, they are machine washable and you just hang them to dry. And they wear like iron. They are available on the website, and I have also purchased them from Madewell and Anthropologie - two of my favorite stores.

I bought a couple yesterday on Black Friday sales to add to my collection.

  1. When I hosted actress Ali MacGraw for the Hermitage Artist Retreat's Muse luncheon, she talked me into wearing a caftan to the luncheon, which surprised everyone because I am normally in a St. John suit, but it was such fun! I have become a believer in caftans ever since!

  3. There is an Australian online clothing company called Birdsnest which was started by a farmer's wife and is run out of a country town by a team of women. They have some lovely dresses including a label called Lulu Life and Lulu Soul. Light, flowy and fun dresses that are perfect for our hot Australian summers and our Tropical states, and would suit you in Florida. They ship to the US and have a flat rate shipping cost of AUD $25 which is very reasonable.
