Slim Aarons

Chairish

I had a great day yesterday. I decided I definitely want a Slim Aarons for CCC. Slim Aarons was an American photographer known for photographing socialites, jet-setters, and celebrities. Interestingly, he never used a stylist or makeup artist. His most famous quote is that he liked "photographing attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places."

My daughter Kate who has a great eye helped me choose one for my home - he had quite a large body of work to say the least. I ordered a 40 inch by 60 inch without frame so it should make quite a statement and also decided on the framing. The one above is not the one I chose, but look how great it looks with ginger jars, Greek key, seashells, and orchids. I will share more details down the road.

Today I am finalizing all the art placement for my day Thursday. So it's art week at CCC pretty much.

And a Slim Aarons photo of Oscar de la Renta - check out the blue and white, rattan, and blue and white Chinese garden stools. It looks like it was taken today.

What a great photo.

  2. I just love his photos! Growing up in South Florida in the 60s & 70s they are so homey to me. Things I saw everyday except not with famous people though my husband saw Burt Reynolds and his wife while she was trying on clothes in a Worth Ave store he was working on. I don’t have room for one. Can’t wait to see all your art hung. So chic that era. Pamela

  3. I'm sure you and your daughter selected the one that will "play nice" with the pair of classical Chinoiserie panels being hung [on Thursday] a mere few feet across the room. A very tough call that I'd never attempt, much less successfully achieve!

  4. I have just spent some fun moments going through all 950 or so photos by him. Perhaps this was a mistake as it has me yearning for the bygone times when we could travel and ski. I have 3 that I have 'selected' for you. I wonder if I got one of them right. It has been fun trying to guess. Looking forward to the reveal.

    1. You are hysterical. Travel and skiing? I seem to remember those in my past. Sad. I love so much of his work.

  5. I have always been so drawn to SA's photos because take me back to my childhood and my favorite era of fashion and life style. It's Mad Men to the max.

There is something very personal if not voyeuristic in a lot of his work which makes it so engaging every time you look.

    1. Yes, exactly so. Mad Men might be my favorite series of all time.
