Slim Aarons |
Yesterday I scheduled my art installer. He is coming over next Thursday to hang all the art in all sixteen areas of the house. It is a big project for me to figure out where everything goes. He sounds great - he was recommended by a follower of CC and the name of his business is The Hanging Man. Perfect.
I worked all day yesterday on this project. I have it well in hand, but have a few loose ends.
I have always sworn by hanging art at the iconic 57" center height, but wonder if we will raise this to 60" or so with my high ceilings.
I would love to do a gallery wall in my walk in closet inspired by Danielle Rollins' stunning closet. This will take some planning.

I have way too much art and will not be using everything, but I want to acquire one very large piece for above the living room sofa. I think I would like a very large framed photograph and have narrowed it down to two choices. One would be a Slim Aarons photograph - I have always wanted one. Especially one taken in Florida. The other option is this - last winter in the Sarasota house a follower mentioned a photographer in Venice who does palm trees and the like - very Old Florida. I need his name if you are reading this and thanks!
I am really looking forward to getting this project done now that all the furniture is here and I have gotten to know the house.
Love the Slim Aaron's photo!
ReplyDeleteI love his work. Perfect for my house.
DeleteClyde Butcher is an excellent award winning photographer who does remarkable Floridian prints He also develops his own prints and features photographic tours of the Everglades
ReplyDeleteYou can go to the lobby in the Venice hospital to glimpse representations of his work
One of his photographs would be stunning above your sofa
I have coveted one if his photographs for years
Thanks so much. That's definitely who I was trying to recall. Thank you.
DeleteNo shortage of palm tree photos here in Florida. I like the Slim Aaron’s idea as it’s more original. I grew up here so I may be a little biased against palm tree art, kind of like you and driftwood. I’m phasing out the last of the palm tree pieces as soon as I find something better to replace them.
ReplyDeleteI agree about generic palm tree art. That is not what I am referring to.
DeleteClyde Butcher has a gallery in Venice. 237 Warfield Ave. Open Tues-fri.
ReplyDeletePerfect - thanks.
DeleteYes, I was going to guess it might be Clyde Butcher, too. He is a local photographer who is nationally renown. His photographs are really interesting, beautiful, and evoke a hauntingly old Florida feeling but they are nothing like the style of Slim Aarons.
ReplyDeleteThanks - that's him. I think both would be perfect in my house.
DeleteClyde Butcher for sure! His photographs are amazing! I toured his studio with one of my first museum jobs and he was such a character too. I love his Cayo Costa series and Ghost Orchid too.
ReplyDeleteA CB coffee table book would be ever so chic in CCC too.
Thanks - gorgeous stuff. A coffee table book of his is a must.
