Bold Beautiful Color

Katie Ridder - House Beautiful

I love this dramatic room - tangerine walls, a corner tufted banquette covered in an exuberant chintz, a unique Chinese garden stool, a gold ceiling, a striking green rug, and a beautifully detailed roman shade.

The day went perfectly yesterday - I have a beautiful new Frame TV and a great sound system. I will post more details and pics tomorrow. I am taking the day off and chilling.

Here is a sneak peek -

  1. Love the new TV. Looks so sleek hanging on the wall. A possible new post suggestion: I always appreciate it when you give the names of your favorite chinoiserie fabrics or wallpapers. Would you consider doing a series of postings on just your favorite wallpapers and fabrics with the names of the designers and of the pattern and also a listing of the various color ways that the wallpapers/fabrics come in? I would definitely bookmark those postings for future reference. Just a thought...

  2. Can't wait to hear more about the TV installation. Love the sleek look of the frame TV but I'm curious how one hooks up a DVD player without the resulting cords hanging down.

    1. You would fish the one TV cord and then put all the peripherals in a cabinet or console connected to the TV's small One Box.

  4. I agree with rubberbandgirl. I'd love a list of your favorite wallpapers and fabrics all in one place. I know you've mentioned quite a few in various blogposts over the years, but it would be great to have some (or all!) of your favorites consolidated in one comprehensive list. Or maybe separate lists for fabrics, wallpapers, etc.

  6. I’m loving your new frame TV. By brother is an avid photographer so I’m trying to talk him into getting one to display his wonderful photographs. How pretty does your TV look in your bedroom.

  7. So happy you have your TV set up.

That room by Katie Ridder with the tangerine walls and gold accents is just stunning! It also appears as if she has gold leafed the coffered ceiling, or done some sort of treatment to make it appear as if it has been gold leafed - something I have always wanted to do in my own living room.

    1. Yes, it looks gold leafed to me also. A lot of work for a large room.

  8. I want lots of color in my house! The current style that I'm observing on Instagram that is all white, beige and a few pops of brass is mystifying to me. It's so bland and boring. It seems to be mostly the twenty to thirty year old group that has adopted this style and I just don't get it.

    1. I suspect the drab colors reflect their depression over the state of things.

    2. It’s a phase and we are going through it now. We went from full on lolor and furnishings a la Tony Duquette to more neutral airy whites with touches of color done through accessories and fabrics.
Glad we did it, a nice change and we like doing something different... like getting a new wardrobe or trying a new haircut and color.
The important thing is to do what makes you happy but not be afraid of getting out of your comfort zone. It’s just paint and stuff...you are not martied to it for life. Live with it for awhile and if it’s not “you” then go back.

People have a way of getting stuck because it feels safe and less demanding to try something new.

  9. So glad to see the orange tones being used more. I just painted an old Chinese style dresser orange, and after cleaning the hardware, left the brass in its aged condition. It looks great. Your tv looks perfect; a great idea.
