From My Kitchen Window & Sofas!

This is the view from my kitchen aquarium window I wanted to share with you - a rare overcast day here in almost always sunny Florida, but still stunning. So Old Florida.

The hurricane(s) will apparently be missing here, and I ending up staying in all day and just relaxing - there may have been a Bloody Mary for brunch involved (Back Pocket Provisions - the best Bloody Mary mixers). I am trying to decompress.

I did take some photos despite the lack of sun and lack of art on the walls yet. I mentioned that I am having all the art professionally hung and have been waiting on all the furniture deliveries first. The dining table should arrive shortly.

  1. I love the peek at your coffee table books. If you feel so inclined, would love to hear your recommendations on the decor books you love to pore over! (And what beautiful backyard you have!)

    1. Thanks, great idea for a post. A lot are still boxed awaiting the arrival of the Mercer table, but once that arrives I will have them all out so I can put together my favorites.

    1. Thanks so much. That is actually the side yard view from my kitchen. The lanai view is equally dramatic.

  4. All of your elements are so gorgeous & feminine, we can't wait until you gather up all the ends & tie it all together into one big, beautiful bow. Everytime you say "Old Florida," I become so nostalgic. As a child, my family wintered in FL for a couple of months. Went to school there in the winter, then back up north. Fond memories.

    1. Thanks so much. I love Old Florida with its live oaks and Spanish moss and marshes and massive palms and so wanted a home with that vibe. Lovely that you have those wonderful memories.

  5. WOW!
Thank you for taking the time to give us a tour. What a lovely oasis inside and out. That's a perfect place to decompress and recharge your batteries if I ever saw one. A bloody Mary or three doesn't hurt either.

Pink sofa's looking swell, you have to be pleased. Your place offers so many interesting possibilities that I am sure your wheels are turning everywhere you look. Fun to know you'll never get bored and you've got so much to work with just with stuff you already have. I have always loved this early stage of trying it here or there, playing with it, imagining what can be...

As always, I continue to be amazed with how much you have accomplished.

  7. Since you have a great handyman, think about having him make a deep blue box to elevate your brass cube on. It could have legs or be solid. I think you might find the scale more pleasing and useful.

    1. Thanks, the pink is so fun now that I have my very girly dream house. Yesterday was lovely, ending with wine in the lanai at my lovely neighbor's home.

  9. Love your backyard jungle. It's hot and the air quality is nasty here in northern CA. Lots of lightening strikes have set fires here, and our power company, Pacific Gas & Electric, has failed for many years in maintaining their equipment. We've had rolling blackouts, and there have been many tragedies because of their negligence. I'm watching much of the greenery around me disappear. So sad. They've either removed, or butchered many beautiful old trees because they are too close to their sub-standard power lines. We are all living on stand-by, in preparation for the worst possible scenario. It feels a bit like Armageddon.

On the brighter side, I ordered the mixers from Back Pocket, and I can't wait to try them. Your home is coming together splendidly. Take good care, Beth.

    1. My heart goes out to you and this hideous turn of events for all of you in California. PG&E deserves prison time, not just getting to buy their way out of their criminal neglect (fines paid by all of you customers!). This is a massive tragedy for California. Thinking of you.

    2. My thoughts are with you and your neighbors during this terrible time, and the pandemic on top of it - truly heartbreaking. Please stay safe and please let me know your favorite Back Pocket - I especially love the Bloody Bangkok.

  11. I love the view from your kitchen sink! What a glorious, verdant view! Lucky you!
The couches look lovely; I especially love the pink one. It's so different. I do not know anyone who has a pink couch. So very feminine.

I second the request of SydneyLifestyle above. I love seeing your stacks of coffee table books; I often look them up on Amazon if I am not familiar with them. I would love to hear your opinions and recommendations.
    Have a great day, Beth!

    1. Thank you. I love the view. It makes me so happy. The couch is very girly - I love pink! And I will definitely do a post on design books as soon as my books are all unpacked - waiting on the table delivery.

  12. Your view is almost primordial in feeling! Rather amazing. Nice to see the sisterhood+HandyMan sofas take their seat in your new home. I think my favorite element would be your bar stools! Perhaps when the dust has settled, HandyMan could have a solution to lower that portion of the bar to stool height, rather than corrupt the perfection of those stools. I remember one poster mentioned she had her marble topped desk raised so a wine fridge could fit. Like that idea, but lower! Just a thought! And those red pagoda lanterns would look wonderful in my house. Just saying! May I pour you another bloody Mary?

    1. I love those lanterns too - the mate is being held hostage by you know who. Those Bloody Marys are addictive. I had it with a bagel and cream cheese and smoked salmon and the pups love bagels and cream cheeses too. LOL

  14. You have the type of home that I could just wander thru enjoying all the thought and care that went into creating such a lovely place! Well done. I have been reading your site for years and our tastes are very different, but I always find something to interesting that keeps me coming back.
