My Favorite Living Room

Bunny Williams & John Rosselli

I have posted hundreds of living rooms in the years I have been doing Chinoiserie Chic, but none do I love more than this one, Bunny Williams and John Rosselli's Punta Cana home. I would love to share more photos of this room.

There are so many elements here I will use in my living room and home in general. Lots of blue and white Chinese porcelain including Chinese garden stools, ginger jars, vases, lamps, and cachepots. Pagodas. Elephants. Palm fronds as floral arrangements. Potted orchids. Painted ceilings. Neutral walls and floors. Books. British Colonial style. Ceiling fans. Sea shells. Slipper chairs. Animal decor. Tropical. Collections. Timeless.

This room makes me happy. I believe Mark Sikes said this is the most beautiful living room in the world. I must agree. It certainly embraces the style I would love to capture in my new tropical Chinoiserie home. What do you think?

  2. Bunny Williams always gets the mix just right, doesn't she? She balances light and airy with serious weighted items to create rooms that are both memorable and easy to live in.

    1. So well said - she has that balance which few do.

  3. This room is gorgeous. It’s full of beautiful things but does not look staged or uptight. I wanted to also let you know I went to Homegoods yesterday in both Bonita Springs & Naples and found Dana Gibson art in both stores. I felt like I had hit the Homegoods jackpot! Wanted to let you know because I think I first discovered Dana Gibson from Chinoiserie Chic years ago. Can’t wait to see what you do with your new home. -Jen, another FL neighbor

    1. Yes, mine too. Fantastic, right? Thanks for the head's up. It was weird there though, walking around in masks and gloves.

  5. Then might you reconsider having a rug - anchoring and bringing the elements of your room together? (Agreed, this is one of Bunny's finest rooms.)

    1. I don't think so. I love the tile and feel like not covering it up, especially here in Florida. I am getting to like rugs less and less I think in general.

  7. I think the size and style of the white mirror is key to the look...do you have a plan for that?

    1. No, because the room has a massive mirror in it already.

  8. Oscar de la Renta's home in Punta Cana is a favourite for me. Best photos of it were in a library book by Sarah Mower that I read ... only a small portion of the book was about his home, but it made a strong impression.

  9. I've always been a fan of British colonial decor, but I absolutely abhor its origins! That said, the Punta Cana house is lovely. I'm a big fan of tables/books/etc breaking up a large space. If I recall Bunny's room is 30x50!!! David Easton was a master of this look and I enjoy Mark Stiles refresh on the idea. I think the darker woods adds gravitas to the room. I would like the room better with the trim and walls the same color (Stiles' version) and the slips in white not blue. I'm a rare bird: A negative blood (6%), green eyes (2%) and I'm so not a fan of pale blues probably in the low end of people on this planet. I know. It's a burden to bear to be so out of sync!!! I like Bunny's handling of the ceiling fans: no light fixtures, just fans. They are less obtrusive that way. Of course, when your ceilings are at least what 16' high they disappear out of the site line anyway. Love your new house's bones. So much good stuff to play with!

    1. Thanks. It would be fun to see the room done with your changes actually.

  10. Bunny Williams is a fave here as well. Love this living room space: tropical, airy and tasteful of course. I read somewhere where it took quite a long time for her to select just the perfect blue for the custom upholstery fabric for this room. I agree with Homebeforedark... I am not a fan of fans with light fixtures...fan only. Not necessarily fond of covering the chain with fabric though. Though it softens the lines of the chain, it just seems dated to me. So necessary in every room in Florida to keep the house cool in the very warm months of the year! Place lamps on tables. I do, however like the trim in white with the creamy wall color. I took inspiration from this room by purchasing a small riser/stool (found on etsy)for the table in the center of my room with a high planter atop similar to what is seen in this room. I also love the dark woods as a contrast to the lighter tropical feel of the walls and upholstery. This house is a beauty; I believe Bunny and John sold it not too long ago.

Looking forward to the transformation of your gorgeous new house!

  11. Best of luck in your new home. I love the lushness of the backyard. I saw Carolyne Roehm last year at a hot dog place here in Charleston. It was the last place I thought I would see her.
