A New Beginning

So, I am on my way to meet my realtor, my painters, the home inspector, the termite inspector, the roof inspector, and the HVAC inspector at the new house. Please send positive energy my way today. As the inspection is taking place, my buyers will be closing on my house in Virginia. A stressful day, to say the least.

The past few months has been a true test for me, but I have survived. How I ended up in Florida, moving for the second time in eight months is a crazy story, that I hope to share sometime. Trust me, you will not believe it. I should write a book.

I am super excited to move into this new home and make it my own. My daughter has been the best, taking care of all the loose ends in Virginia so I did not have to travel back to close. To my friends in DC, I can't wait for you to come down and visit. To those of you in this area who have reached out and introduced yourselves, I am looking forward to meeting each of you. And to all my followers who have enjoyed Chinoiserie Chic for the past eleven years or any portion of it, thank you. This has been a creative outlet for me, and I am enjoying it even more now since retuning after my absence.

I hope everyone enjoys following along as I turn my new house in to my Chinoiserie Chic home. This will be my first home I have bought on my own all by myself and I can't wait.

And to the Anonymous commenter (I did not post it) who told me I need to change myself to make myself happy with the man I am living with and that no home or career is as important as a relationship, I don't know what to say except that the commenter and I do not live in the same universe or breathe the same air.

  4. Beth, I am hoping to buy my first home in the next couple of years when I retire. I am looking in the South. You are truly an inspiration to me. I take copious notes on your postings and I only wish I had known you when you lived in Alexandria. Wishing you the best of luck today.

  6. Beth, I hope your day goes very smoothly and all ends up well on your home fronts. Congratulations for having the courage and fortitude to make the changes YOU require to live YOUR best, most personally fulfilling life. It's called *self-actualization* something you cannot get from any relationship but have to create for yourself. Anonymous is still stuck in the 1950s when women went to college to get their MRS degree. When my ex refused my request to go to grad school, I divorced him and put myself through. I earned my Master and Doctorate degrees as a single mother of two. It wasn't easy by any means, but I have never looked back except to say I am happy with the very fulfilling career I created for myself.

  9. So happy for you and the sunny future that lies before you. It sounds like you've been on quite the roller coaster ride during the last few years. Re: anonymous commentator, her comment about YOU having to change to be happy with a man is the daftest thing I've ever heard. You're going to be just fine.

  10. That is certainly a lot for today's plate. May everything go seamlessly today and if it doesn't, it's not the end of the world. Fingers crossed!

  13. Uggh. The anon poster "who knows best". I'm 70 and I've lived long enough not to judge until you have walked a mile in some other woman's stilettos (although now, it would be flats for me)! By now we know that every woman has had to make some very difficult choices in her life. I'm not a religious person. I don't believe in an afterlife. I believe you get one opportunity to life. Live it on your own terms. Wishing you positive energy for this new beginning.

PS Navaho white is not the answer!

  17. Sometimes life throws us a few curves and you've handled them beautifully. Thanks for allowing so many of us to have a peek into your life. I'm looking forward to your remodeling project. Actually, I'm having my home in NH redone on the outside with new siding, windows, trim, and adding a portico.. I am so excited about it and I know you're excited about the changes you'll make to make this house your home..

Btw, there are always those who think they know what's best for us, even though they don't know us...Bless their hearts. I just go on my merry way, and do what I want.. I know you'll do the same.

  21. I must confess to being completely stunned by Anon's "advice" to you. WOW! It is my personal belief that the day we begin to define ourselves through a relationship with a man/woman as a life partner is the day we lose ourselves. Poor thing! She needs to get a life that is her own. I am thrilled for you and love watching the boldness with which you strike out every day. I have no doubt that this trait and so many others we all admire in you were some of the many reasons your now departed husband fell in love with you. You got this, my friend. And wouldn't we have quite the lady's book club if all us who comment lived near you and we all got together once a month for coffee and conversation! A powerful group of women, to be sure! I am definitely staying tuned! Hugs!
