The Chinoiserie Dining Room

Amanda Lindroth - House Beautiful

The dining area in Amanda Lindroth's home in the Bahamas has lots of great ideas. A Coventry bench from Ballard Designs and vintage Brown Jordan Chinese Chippendale chairs are nestled around a painted teak table. The large Chinese ancestor art is a wonderful focal point. I love the blue and white batik pillows on the bench, the collection of shells on the table and shell brackets, and the touches of pink. BTW, the Coventry bench from Ballard comes in a ton of fabrics including lots of Sunbrella and is a great way to get a custom banquette look at a very attractive price point. This is a fun space with a tropical Chinoiserie vibe.

  1. This is a little off-topic. Have you seen Amanda Lindroth's tour of her island home posted on Instagram and sponsored by Circa Lighting? https://www.instagram.com/p/CAQNMRtgDO8/
I have not received her book, yet, but the interior/exterior spaces are very pretty.

On topic-I dod not care for the painted teak table with those beautiful vintage Chinese Chippendale Brown Jordan chairs. In my view the chairs, the banquette, and the Chinese ancestor are elegant the painted table is not. Depending on condition, it may have looked better to have the beauty and elegance of natural, polished teak shine through to make an interesting contrast to all the surrounding white.

    1. Yes, I have. I love her style. I can't deal with cords hanging down the wall from the picture lights though. I get your point about the painted teak, but I think she wanted everything very bright and airy. Her rattan is also painted. Perhaps the teak did not have a beautiful patina worth saving.

    2. I love the color she painted her rattan and the shutters. I especially love it with the blue and white print. I am not against painted furniture--in fact I own and adore painted Chinoiserie pieces. I just did not like that particular painted table.
I agree cords hanging down on walls look awful.
