Are you a fan of the balloon or London shade or do they seem too 1980s to you? Here is a current example from Calico Corners with the shade done in a Chinoiserie fabric.

Love it! Sophisticated and timeless. I'm with your other reader - I don't want shower curtains hanging in my public rooms. Those grommets are fine in the bathroom, but not the living room.
