Red, White, and Blue Chinoiserie

A red, white, and blue palette works exceptionally well with Chinoiserie. It is the perfect choice with blue and white Chinese porcelain, blanc de Chine, and red or black lacquer pieces. It has a fresh and clean look that works beautifully in a beach house, country home, or anywhere. These wonderful red, white, and blue fabrics and wallpapers are all from Thibaut.

  1. WOW! So much to see! I need more time to process all that I am looking at. Darn it!! I don't think I will EVER be completely satisfied with anything I have, as there is always something else out there that strikes my fancy. Glad I don't mind change!! Thank you, Beth and have a great weekend!

  5. What an amazing array of patterns. It is fascinating how many of them are based on historical examples. The pattern with the sedan chair, for instance, has figures that are copied from prints after Jean Berain of about 1700 showing designs for masquerade costumes for a party at Versailles. The pattern with the pavilions and bridges seemingly floating in the air (in red and blue) is after Jean-Baptiste Pillement. And the pattern with the vignettes of pavillions and pagodas in the style of architectural drawings (in blue and red) includes designs from William Chambers's book 'Designs of Chinese Buildings' of 1757 and from Charles Over's book 'Ornamental Architecture in the Gothic, Chinese and Modern Taste' of 1758.

  12. The first photo was taken in my home during a January photo shoot. My dining room is actually painted in a custom raspberry. We set the table with antique Canton, vintage pink glasses (it worked!) and that ugly, ugly red vase that my husband thought I couldn't live without! This is the only time I have ever used it - ugh! I also set the napkins on the horizontal and the editors loved it - and those peonies were to die for and Bill was nice enough to leave them with me. I also have the chair fabric and will be using it in Roman shades for my new kitchen - which will be built from the ground up - some day soon, I hope!

And Emile - thank you for such great info. I hope you can educate all of us again!
